Have they improved the processor and startup time ...

Have they improved the processor and startup time over the original H4n? I couldn't stand waiting over 1 minute to power-up on my old model.
Asked by: Justin
The H4n Pro has improved mic preamps and a better rubberized body than the original H4n. The processor and startup times would still be the same as the original. For quicker start up times, it's recommended to use no larger than a 16GB SD card if possible.

I want to use this both in our recording studio and out in the wild. I already have a great mic stand, what do I need to attach the H4N to that stand for in-studio use?
Asked by: Donald
You can use the Zoom MA-2. Otherwise, you can use a generic tripod to mic stand adapter.

Does anyone know how the audio (preamps) compares to the original “H4”-not the “n” version.
Asked by: David
The H4 is an older model than the H4N. The preamps have been redesigned to sound clearer and better with more headroom.

Can I monitor audio while recording with the H4N? Also, can I record primary audio with and XLR mic and back up audio with the internal mic at the same time?
Asked by: Matthew
Yes to all, you can monitor your audio while recording thru headphone output on the H4N and you can us your external mics connected thru XLR's ports in the recorder and use internal H4N mics as well at the same time. and mix the two or mute vice versa.

What is the life time with phantoms power on?

What is the life time with phantoms power on?
Asked by: Alex
Although it may seem wasteful, I recommend fresh batteries before each session, regardless of phantom powering. I've completed eight hour sessions without any concerns. I don't recommend rechargeable batteries for reliability, and I always remove batteries after each use. A shortcoming: recorder settings must be reset when you remove batteries, they are stored in volatile memory. Hope this helps.

how is the 2020 model different then the original h4n model in terms of specs?
Asked by: Chris
The appearance and: it’s just been improved in a few areas, which are: Higher-quality preamps Locking XLR inputs Updated exterior with restyled buttons and a blue screen Not a long list, but the changes are meaningful. The most important update are the improved microphone preamps. I communicated with Zoom and confirmed that they’re the same ones used in the Zoom H5 and H6 recorders. In the past I reviewed the H5 and was satisfied with how it sounded. In my tests with the H4n Pro, I found that the sound quality has been improved a little, but not dramatically so.

Can the H4N Pro record line level via XLR?

Can the H4N Pro record line level via XLR?
Asked by: Christy
Line level is only available in the 1/4" inputs. There will be an impedance mismatch if feeding line level via xlr. Signal will clip the mic preamp before the converter, even if you turn the gain down you'll still be overloaded
