Bright and versatile, the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S from Nikon is a workhorse standard zoom, covering wide-angle to portrait-length fields of view. Characterized by its bright f/2.8 constant maximum aperture, this lens is suitable for working in a variety of lighting conditions and also offers increased control over depth of field for isolating subjects and working with selective focus. The optical design incorporates a pair of extra-low dispersion elements along with four aspherical elements, which help to control chromatic and spherical aberrations throughout the zoom range for improved clarity and sharpness. Additionally, ARNEO and Nano Crystal Coats, as well as a Super Integrated Coating, have been applied to suppress flare, ghosting, and surface reflections for improved contrast and color fidelity.

Has anyone experiences a very slight play in the inner barrel when especially when extended? It's subtle but audible when I gently shake the lens.
I have just looked at this lens on my Z7. Yes, when extended there is the slightest play in the inner barrel, which can be felt and (barely, but clearly) heard. This does not seem to affect anything and this is one of my best, sharpest Nikon lenses.
I suspect it is normal.

Is it normal for the telescopic part of the lens ...
Is it normal for the telescopic part of the lens to wobble? Giving it a light shake makes a rattle-like noise. I can feel the telescopic section moving back and forth slightly.
I just received my Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S yesterday and noticed a slight wiggle and can hear the movement if I apply slight pressure on the end of the telescoping barrel when it's extended anywhere from 50mm to 70mm. I called Nikon support today and they confirmed there should be no wiggle with this lens. They suggested calling B&H for an exchange or sending the lens into Nikon for warranty repair. Since I just received the lens I'll be calling B&H when they reopen on Sunday (it's after hours on Friday now).

Is there a collar that makes the new Z lenses ...
Is there a collar that makes the new Z lenses backward compatible with existing F mount cameras (Nikon 850)?
No. You physically cannot adapt Z lenses to F mount cameras, the sensor to flange distance will not allow for this.
