Tamron 35-150mm f/2.8-4 Di VC OSD Overview

Spanning a unique wide-angle to medium telephoto range, the Nikon F-mount 35-150mm f/2.8-4 Di VC OSD from Tamron is a flexible zoom characterized by its bright f/2.8-4 maximum aperture range and relatively compact, lightweight design for general use. A BBAR coating has also been applied and helps to reduce flare and ghosting for improved color and contrast when working in strong lighting conditions. Complementing the optics, an Optimized Silent Drive AF motor realizes near-silent, fast focusing performance while a Vibration Compensation system minimizes the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting. Additionally, the lens features a moisture-resistant construction along with a front fluorine coating to support working in harsh weather conditions.

Wide to portrait-length zoom is designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount cameras, however can also be used with DX models where it provides a 52.5-225mm.
Bright f/2.8-4 maximum aperture range suits working in available light conditions and also offers depth of field control for isolating subject matter.
Three Low Dispersion (LD) glass elements help to minimize chromatic aberrations in order to achieve greater clarity with reduced color fringing.
Three hybrid aspherical elements correct for spherical and comatic aberrations, as well as distortion, for consistent edge-to-edge sharpness and illumination throughout the zoom range, as well as a reduction of sagittal comatic flare.
BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coating has been applied to individual elements and provides refined correction and control over ghosting and lens flare for greatly improved contrast and color accuracy when working in backlit conditions.
Optimized Silent Drive (OSD) motor realizes notably quiet, fast, and precise autofocus performance and the lens offers a 1.5' minimum focusing distance throughout the zoom range for working with close-up subjects.
VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization is incorporated into the lens' design to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to five stops for sharper handheld shooting in low-light conditions.
Dual dedicated MPUs (Micro-Processing Unit) are used-one for autofocus, one for VC-to ensure fast, responsive focusing and stabilization performance.
A moisture-resistant construction benefits this lens' use in inclement conditions, and a fluorine coating has also been applied to the front lens element to protect against dust, dirt, and smearing.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.
Electromagnetic aperture mechanism provides greater exposure control stability that is especially beneficial when working with fast continuous shooting rates.
Compatible with optional TAP-in Console for fine-tuning select focusing adjustments and for updating lens firmware.

Tamron 35-150mm f/2.8-4 Di VC OSD Reviews

3yr anniversary review.

*I did not purchase this at BHP and I know this lens has been discontinued* I just wanted to give this lens some love. I purchased this lens along with my 6D2 new in May 2019. I have hundreds of great photos over the past 3 years with this lens. It is a terrific focal range to walk around with. Image quality is virtually identical in comparison to my canon 24-105 f4 L IS. Besides the f2.8/4 and slight focal length difference, the canon snaps to focus slightly faster. However, if you have a few microseconds to spare, this lens is just as sharp and impressive. However, I am quite sure Tamron doesn't have the same QC standards as canon and quality between lenses fluctuates. Luckily, I have a good copy and will always hold onto it despite acquiring more canon L glass.

I take this lens as partner to Nikkor Z 14-30/4 for my Nikon Z7II and i must say it is just brilliant. Yes it is a little bit heavy and you need to use it with FTZ adaptor but for this price it is just a bargain!!! Fantastic performance!!!

Very Good Lens

This is my second Tamron 35-150 lens. The first one would not auto focus. B&H replaced it with another and it is working perfectly. The pictures are super clear and the auto focus is fast. Very pleased.

TERRIBLE auto focus

I am using this lens on a Canon 5DsR. Auto focus is by far the worst I have ever seen on any lens I have used. I compared this to a Tamron 28-300 lens I purchased several years ago and it is far better at auto focus than the 35-150. When it does get a focus lock the picture is very clear, I just don't think it should take 30 to 35 seconds to get a clear picture. This lens is only good for still photography.

Not an Canon L lens, but excellent at what it does does well. Well made for a Tamron Lens. It's a whole different lens than those I tried out 10 years ago. I use my gear to supplement my income so I'm serious about my Glass. The copy that I have is sharp and renders great color. The focus is not fast, but this is not an action lens. Here's a sample of what this lens offers. Sunset over the Arkansas River and it did a great job. This image is just a very small file. I'll try this lens out for a bit and when it's healthy and safe to really travel again this lens will be in my gear bag for Patagonia.

I've had great luck with other TAMRON lenses and this was an affordable way to get a 2.8 lens for my new Nikon 850. I have only had it for a few weeks, but I believe it will be a go to everyday lens for me!

Nice Lens

I've been using this lens for both photos and videos on my Nikon z6ii camera. It has performed well in both applications. The price is right. More expensive lens's will be sharper and quicker to focus, but this one is doing just fine for me

Good (not Great)

I bought this lens as a companion to the SP 15-30 G2. It significantly extents my available focal lengths by carrying one additional lens. The two lenses combine for a 15-150 with a minor gap of only 5mm. It meets that goal. I wish the quality were better matched to an SP or G2 lens. It is not to be confused with the features and qualities of the 35-150 f/2-2.8. It is good - not great.

How does the aperture vary with the focal length?

How does the aperture vary with the focal length?
Asked by: DHRUVA
Aperture is the ratio between the focal length and aperture opening. So lens at 100mm and f2 would need an aperture opening of 50mm. So on a zoom lens if the focal length increases but the aperture opening remains constant the f-stop increases because the numerator is increasing.
