LEE Filters 100PLR Reviews
Great Compliment to Lee System
This Polarizer holder system works incredibly well with the parent filter holder system. Lee has perfected the manner in which those who are Lee filter users actually use the filters.
The old system was much better
I own the older version the Lee filter and polarizer holder system. I had it set up for two filters and had added the polarizer holder on top of the filter holders. The polarizer holding ring in the old system was much better. The release tabs on this polarizer ring holder are difficult to operate and they get in the way of screwing on the polarizer. We all worry about dropping equipment and I wasn't sure if I should attach the ring and then try to put the polarizer on or put the polarizer on and then place on the filter holder. If you are asking why I bought an additional holding system? I wanted to have an easy way to add just the polarizer without the gap between the filter holders and the polarizer as I had flare in some shots because of the gap between the two letting in some sunlight. This isn't a possibility with the new system but is with the old system - or at least I haven't figured out how yet.
This is a great change making removal of the circular polarizer quicker and easier. It easily snaps into place onto the new Lee 100 holder that is required. It does take some getting use to with the removal as you don’t want the polarizer to come or pop off too easily.
New Polarizer Holder
This is a good upgrade to the old holder that could get distorted and potentially cross-thread the polarizer. The old holder also had to be removed using a small flat blade screwdriver potentially dropping screws and losing them. The new holder just snaps into place and comes out again with some even, downward pressure on the release clip. You can also just leave it on the new filter holder and store both in the new soft filter holder bag. With a bit of practice it comes on and off pretty easily.
Works perfectly with the new filter holder
I had the 105mm CP which I used with the original Lee filter holder. This is so much easier to use with the new filter holder. Highly recommend.
Works great with Singh-Ray standard ring polarizer
The thread depth on the standard ring Singh-Ray 105mm Color Combo polarizer works well with this filter holder. Allows me to quickly remove the polarizer without the fear of dropping it when trying to screw it in (a real concern with the previous version of the Lee holder, particularly with cold fingers). BTW... note that a standard ring polarizer is much easier to adjust when in the holder than a thin ring, as the filter is somewhat recessed when mounted. This is why the new Lee landscape polarizer has a thicker ring than the pervious version). The older version of the Lee landscape works fine, but need to reach in a bit to rotate the filter. With a standard ring polarizer attached to the filter holder with two filter slots, there is no vignetting down to 20 mm on my D850 using my Nikon 16-35 and 20 mm lenses and the adapter attached directly to the lens body. There is slight vignetting at 16 mm though, but not an issue for me as it can be eliminated with very slight crop or cloning in post. Have not tested with only a single filter slot as i frequently stack filters -- but going to a single slot might get you down to 16 mm without vignetting.
Polarizer ring rating
This was what was needed, instead of trying to remove the filter when not in use.
Incompatible with thread with LEE 105mm LS CPL
I am not sure where LEE is going with their product quality. I purchased this ring and the 105MM landscape CPL from LEE. it won't even thread to the ring. I have to return this and lose money in the process.
