The 15.6" IPS anti-glare display features a Full HD 1920 x 1080 screen resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio. The 144 Hz refresh rate helps reduce motion blurs and screen tearing. Visuals are handled by the dedicated NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card with 6GB of GDDR6 VRAM.

The system is powered by a 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7-9750H Six-Core processor. It also has 16GB of 2666 MHz DDR4 RAM, a 1TB PCIe M.2 SSD, Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac), built-in stereo speakers from HARMAN that are Dolby Atmos certified, a 720p webcam, Bluetooth 4.2, USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C, USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A, HDMI 2.0, and Mini DisplayPort 1.4. Windows 10 Home (64-bit) is the installed operating system.

Windows 10
Start Menu
After its hiatus in Windows 8, the Start Menu has returned. Utilizing a combination of the traditional menu system and Windows 8's Live Tiles, the improved Start Menu gives you more information at a glance, showing notification information alongside your applications and other pinned items.
Cortana
Microsoft's digital personal assistant, Cortana can answer your questions with information gleaned from both your device and the internet at large. You can type or even talk with her, if your system has a microphone. Using her Laptop, Cortana keeps track of your needs and wants, and she learns over time to improve her information gathering skills.
Microsoft Edge
After nearly 20 years, Microsoft has finally replaced its Internet Explorer web browser. With Microsoft Edge, users can write directly on web pages and share notes with friends and colleagues. It also improves the online reading experience by adding a distraction-free mode and read-it-later functionality. Edge also has built-in Cortana integration; you can have her help you find a restaurant, make a reservation, and pull up directions without leaving your browser.
Windows Store
For Windows 10, Microsoft has unified the Windows Store. Now, apps for PCs, tablets, and phones will all be accessible from one place. And with support for Universal Apps, one version of an app can work across all your compatible devices automatically.
Windows Continuum
Windows 10 was designed for a variety of screen sizes and input styles, and with its Continuum feature, it automatically adapts to fit your needs. A Windows 10 tablet on its own requires a touch-centric approach, but attaching a mouse and keyboard will shift everything to a more traditional interface. You can even attach an external monitor to your Windows 10 phone for a near-desktop experience. But it's not just the operating system; Windows Universal Apps take advantage of Continuum as well.
Xbox on Windows 10
Gaming is a big focus of Windows 10. Xbox integration allows for PC players to match up against Xbox One players on supported games, and if you have an Xbox One, you can even stream compatible titles to your PC. Native support for recording with the new Game DVR feature makes it easy to capture and share your gameplay. The new DirectX12 takes better advantage of multi-core processors, giving games a performance boost, even on older hardware. Windows 10 also features native support for virtual reality headsets, such as the Oculus Rift.

Lenovo Y540 15.6" Reviews

Terrible laptop

The motherboard gave out and needed to be replaced within months of purchasing this unit (on warranty). Now, not even two years after buying this laptop, the motherboard is broken again and needs to be replaced at the cost of a new laptop. This is ridiculous. I will never buy a Lenovo Laptop again.

Nice Gaming Rig On-The-Go, Gets HOT Though

If you've had a gaming laptop before you're no stranger to the molten temperatures these machines can produce, and this laptop is no exception. In fact, if the Y540 is an outlier it is not in a good way. Not a great future proofing purchase if you plan on getting AAA titles exclusively, but it is handling Warzone & Cold War like a champ in late 2020.

I loved this machine, especially after having a previous Lenovo. As soon as my 1 year warranty was up, 30 days later it went to crapola. Fan makes ridiculous noise and then boom, no power now.

I use it for edit (Full HD) and facebook transmitions and works perfectly fluid an fast. With SDD power on, is ready on seconds, files transfers are kicker than any HDD. Encode process take half time than my older i7 desktop. RTX 2060 gives a fluid video, I dont play games but my brother does sometimes (LoL, GTA V, Fornite) and loves 140HZ. The best laptop I have never had.

I absolutely love this laptop! It has been a great purchase, I’ve had it so far for several weeks and it plows through anything I throw at it. Rendering a 3d software work like a charm. I can’t really complain about anything in particular at the time.   Battery works according to what the workload is given (lasting approximately 4 hours going easy on it and low on wireless connectivity), I didn’t expect it, or wanted it to be a really mobile workstation, so it does not bother me in the least.   Perhaps the only thing that bugs me is the placement of the webcam, but since I don’t use it that much, I guess I can live with it.   I think the price-quality of the product is superior of any competition by its category/price range.   Definitely recommended, although the new version on this model is a slight improvement on this one.

I bought it one year ago and, for the price, I thought it will be enough for my architecture work but it's not. The battery development it's poor, just a few hours and it's shuts off in the middle of the day, erasing all the stuff

I seem to read a lot of reviews and online forums about the audio on this laptop crackling. Some people found an issue with the SSD controller, others with the WiFi card. What, if any, solution is in place? I would love to buy this but don't want the hassle of dealing with audio issues for a $1300 laptop.
Asked by: Alex
I own one, and have never had cracking audio or anything like that. Latest drivers of everything and latest BIOS.

Whether this system is compatible with specific editing software, will depend on the requirements and compatibility of the specific software. We recommend you check with the software publisher's web site for their compatibility with Windows 10 Home 64-bit operating system and the minimum/recommended hardware requirements (Is a Graphics card required, the processor speed and the minimum required system RAM and the minimum available hard drive space) to run their program, then compare those requirements to this system's configuration.
