Nikon A1000 Overview

Pocketable and versatile, the black Nikon COOLPIX A1000 is a sleek point-and-shoot offering flexible imaging capabilities and a well-rounded physical design. UHD 4K video recording is also supported at 30p, along with Full HD recording at up to 60p, and still frames can be pulled from 4K footage for isolating fast-moving moments. 16MP 1/2.3" BSI CMOS Sensor
A high-resolution 16MP 1/2.3" BSI CMOS sensor affords impressive image quality with enhanced sensitivity, from ISO 100-6400, to benefit working in difficult lighting conditions, along with the ability to record in the NRW raw format for expanded post-production capabilities. The sensor also affords quick performance throughout the camera system, including a continuous shooting rate of up to 10 fps.
Zoom-NIKKOR ED 35x Zoom Lens
A wide-ranging NIKKOR 35x optical zoom lens provides a 24-840mm equivalent focal length range that covers wide-angle to super telephoto perspectives, and its range can effectively be doubled through the use of Dynamic Fine Zoom for a total 70x zoom magnification. Lens-shift Vibration Reduction balances this awesome length by compensating for the effects of up to three stops of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting. Additionally, the lens' optical design incorporates extra-low dispersion glass to minimize chromatic aberrations and color fringing throughout the zoom range for cleaner, clearer image quality.
UHD 4K Video Recording
In addition to stills recording, UHD 4K video recording is supported at 30p, as well as Full HD recording up to 60p. For steadying recording, Hybrid Vibration Reduction can be used to suppress the effects of camera shake that occur while moving when recording. Additionally, individual frames from 4K videos can also be saved as 8MP stills to serve as a viable means for photographing fast-moving subjects.
Body Design and Built-In Wi-Fi
  • Sleek, pocketable form factor is ideal for everyday shooting.
  • High-resolution 1.166m-dot electronic viewfinder provides bright, clear eye-level viewing, which is especially beneficial when working in bright conditions.
  • A 3.0" 1.036m-dot touchscreen LCD is an intuitive means for live view shooting, playback, and menu navigation, and it has a tilting design to benefit working from high, low, and front-facing angles.
  • Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy work in conjunction with Nikon's SnapBridge system for connecting the camera with a mobile device in order to wirelessly share images between devices as well as remotely control the camera.
  • Snap-Back Zoom Button lets you quickly zoom out from a super telephoto position to regain perspective of the entire scene and reacquire your subject. This button can also be customized to activate manual focus, aperture, ISO, exposure compensation, or white balance adjustments.
  • EN-EL12 rechargeable lithium-ion battery offers approximately 250 shots per charge.
  • An HDMI port permits connecting the camera directly to an HDTV for high-resolution playback.
  • Built-in pop-up flash can be used for additional illumination when working in difficult lighting conditions.
Other Camera Features
  • Target Finding AF automatically assesses the scene, recognizes intended subjects, and then adjusts the AF area according to the subject's size to better ensure clearly focused images.
  • The contrast-detection autofocus system and Subject Tracking function also work to maintain focus on moving subjects.
  • Smart Portrait System utilizes a series of automatic functions, including In-Camera Red-Eye Fix, Face-Priority AF, Face Priority AE, Smile Mode, Blink Warning, Skin Softening, and D-Lighting to produce better portraits.
  • Scene Auto Selector automatically recognizes the type of scene you are photographing and selects one of six commonly used scene modes to alleviate the need to manually select your mode.

Nikon A1000 Reviews

Good quality and attention

Got this cam for the zoom and it didn't disappoint me... I don't know much about cameras and photography so i only bought this one for festivals and gigs, already went to lollapalooza and what i got is pure quality! I also read the reviews about the memory card and they're 100% true... I had a SanDisk and it didn't work, so i got a Lexar 633x UHS-I and it works perfectly The attention from the store and the shipment was on time I bought it from outside of the states and they even had security steps to ensure that the purchase was real and safe, so i'd recommend it without a doubt

Step backward from the S9900 on quality

Camera imaging works great, but the lens rattles when extended or retracted. Cover on the back of the display has been removed where the S9900 had a solid back cover on the display. Overall, the camera does not have the quality feel of the S9900 which I used for 5 years.

SanDisk 64GB cards do not work

For a second gift, I have now purchased a second A1000. Again, the SanDisk ExtreemPro 64GB card that B&H includes in their package will not work correctly in this second A1000, just like it did not work in the first that I bought. These cards will not accept into memory the photos from these Nikon A1000 cameras. Other cards do work okay. B&H should not offer SanDisk cards with this Package.

Card memory won't work II

This is an addition to my earlier review with the same headline. After much effort, cost and experimenting, it has become clear that the card memory problem that I described earlier is directly related to the SanDisk, Extreme PRO 64GB SDXC UHS-1 card that B&H supplies as part of this kit. B&H sent me an identical replacement card and it didn't work either. I also bought and tried the SanDisk Image Mate 64GB SDXC UHS-1 card and it also did not work either. The good news is that I have now bought and tried a Lexar Professional 64GB SDXC UHS-1 (circle 10, U3 V30) card and it works. The A1000 does succeed to dump photos onto this card with no problems. I strongly suspect that Delkin Devices' cards will work, too. The complete problem had to do with the SanDisk card. One lesson here is that B&H should not include these SanDisk cards in this kit because they do not work in the A1000. Cards manufactured by other companies do seem to work. B&H should include one of these, after they verify that it works as Nikon specifies.

Card memory won't work

Received this A1000 on Aug 1, 2021. I know Nikon cameras and have enjoyed them. But this Coolpix A1000one has been a big hassle, with a still not resolved problem. The B&H package included a Sandisk Extreme PRO 64GB card. The A1000 will not transfer pictures or video onto the card. After pictures are taken when a review is attempted, a message reads Memory contains no images. I have purchased and tried another Sandisk 64GB card. I got the same message, Memory contains no images. I have contacted B&H sales and technical support. They have no answer. One suggestion was to try a Lexor SD card, which I've now ordered. So, is the camera mal-functioning, or is it that the Sandisk SD cards that B&H include in the package just won't work with this A1000? In any case, the hassle is not to be expected with a camera that's marketed as a point and shoot.

This little camera has a lot of nice features. I carry it when I don't feel like carrying my Nikon 810 and lenses. It shoots in RAW and JPEG. Great camera for travel when space is an issue.

You can connect the camera to Nikon's "Snapbridge" app on your smart phone or tablet and the pictures can be downloaded wirelessly to your smart phone as they are taken. Nikon also provides the "Image Space" cloud storage for your pictures which you can use from an app on your smart phone or PC. Nikon also has the Capture NX-D PC program to download pictures from the SD Card and to also process them.

Can the flash be set to "force flash" (always on)?
Asked by: Wayne
You have to activate the flash attachment. That is, get the flash bulb to pop up from where it's stowed on the top of the camera. Then look at the wheel on the back of the camera. There's a flash symbol (lightning bolt) on top. Press that and you can choose "auto flash" (the camera decides if more light is needed), "auto flash wth red-eye reduction," "fill flash" (the flash goes off every time you take a picture) or "flash with slow shutter speed" (for shooting at night).
