Sony RMT-P1BT Reviews

Sony RMT-P1BT Remote

Yes it's very expensive, but you know, typical Sony. I bought this remote not only to record and take pictures, that works perfectly once it's paired with your Sony compatible camera. But I mistakenly thought when hooked up to my TV that I can remotely play a video, not touching the camera, but to my surprise I can't, big let down.

Not great for Sony Alpha 1

Most of the features, things like adjusting the zoom or focus, don't work on the Sony Alpha 1, and the instructions on how to connect it to the camera are intended to universally apply to multiple Sony cameras, but do not, so there's a fair amount of problem solving and multiple attempts to get it set up. However once connected, it works perfectly at taking a picture or starting and stopping video record remotely.

Some features work, difficult to pair, overpriced

Pairing with a Sony A1 took a bit of extra time and troubleshooting, as the instructions in the manual were generalized and not tailored to the menu or needed order-of-steps for the A1. Not the remote's fault, lol, just Sonys for making a tool intended to be universal to spite their camera lines NOT being universal in pairing requirements. Also the ability to adjust the zoom and focus with the plus and minus keys don't work on the Sony A1. So basically I bought an 80 dollar clicker.

The remote is awesome. Not only can you control the camera shutter but you can also use it to record videos as well. It being Bluetooth means you don't have to point it directly at the camera to make it work and you can really see why it is so expensive because of the build quality. There is a little rubber piece your finger grips on the bottom of the remote and the looped area at the bottom has a nice metal bar which feels strong. Also, the white icons on the buttons on the face of the remote are recessed so it will help keep the icons from rubbing off. But the best part is that when I press the button to record video, a red light illuminates at the top of the remote... and it stays on for the duration of the recording! It is always hard to tell when a movie is being recorded just by referencing the small screen on the camera. Sometimes I am far from the screen to confirm. This remote gives me another way to check and confirm that I am actually recording. Definitely worth $78!

This is a good accessory to have if you own a MkVII. No hassle wireless connection and it's responsive.

Dead in my hand 2 months after warranty expired.

I bot the Sony brand remote ($78) for my Sony A7C because I thot it would be more reliable. It worked fine for about 14 months (2 months past warranty) and then it died. Dead in my hand. I have probably only used it about 10 times. I called Sony tech support and they could do nothing for me. I should have just bot the JJC Wireless remote from Amazon for $28.

Can I control several cameras at once? I.e start and stop video recording.
Asked by: Brian
No, you cannot. The Sony RMT-P1BT Wireless Remote Commander, B&H # SORMTP1BT, can only be paired to one camera at a time via Bluetooth. To use the remote with a new camera, it would have to be un-paired from the first camera, so it cannot control multiple cameras simultaneously.

What battery does it use and is it replaceable? Why do I get a message saying this item cannot be shipped to my country as 'There are currently no shipping methods available to that location due to carrier regulations regarding products containing lithium batteries'?

This would use a lithium coin cell battery, this battery is replaceable. But do to that, it is unable to be shipped outside of the US. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

The remote will turn off on its own, but it is recommended to keep the lock switch engaged when storing it to prevent it from turning on by accident.
