The Jury Is Still Out

This projector has great color rendition and is very bright. The lens is fully motorized and has wide range to adjust the focus, vertical and horizontal position, including the zoom to fill the screen and also the keystone adjustment. However, there is a built-in test pattern, which can be used to adjust the focus, but does not seem to be as crisp as I expected with actual video content. From what I have learned, this could be the result of the HDR 4K pixel shift technology. The focus seems to be soft and uneven across the screen. I will try adjusting sharpness and contrast to calibrate against a full screen still video image test pattern, to improve. The remote control is very robust in that most all adjustments are accomplished from the remote control. Overall so far I do like this projector.

Bought as replacement for aging unit. Simple install and setup. All focus and unit adjustment internal, no ladder anymore. 13.5 feet side to side picture, better than real theatre any day.

Great projector

I don't know that there is more I can say than has been written. This is a well reviewed projector. I've had mine about a month, it has 50 hours on the bulb. It looks great! One of the main reasons I got it was for the lens memory and automated shift and focus. I set it up with a constant image height screen. In 16:9 mode, it's 110 inches, and in 2.4:1 it's 140 inch diagonal. It sits about 19 feet from the screen, and is mounted in a ventilated soffit near the ceiling. My wife was not really happy about the price, and questioned the value. But now that it's installed, she loves it. It's a major step up from our previous inexpensive DLP Optoma projector. Far better blacks and contrast, much better sharpness and color. Just a different world in terms of picture quality and overall satisfaction. If you are on the fence, just get it. You won't be disappointed. No, it's not "real 4K" and no, nobody will know except you and other projector geeks. It looks fantastic.

Almost OLED contrast

The biggest selling point for me on this was the fact that anamorphic movies don't have those annoying projector black bars on the top and bottom. This phases them out completely and it looks so. Darn. Good. And the color brightness is well above the rated lumens. Not good for bright rooms still but plenty to light up every corner in your home theater with a 150 screen. Seriously legendary stuff. But beware, this thing is a UNIT. It's bigger and heavier than any other projector I've had before. Make sure your ceiling mounts will hold up the weight.

A nice improvement over my 5030ub. 4k stuff looks great. However, I need to work on 1080p picture quality settings.. No 3D - no glasses. Rarely used it on my 5030. It was worth upgrading....Got it fast!

Wow what a nice projector, upgraded from Epson 2150. This one is so quiet on medium or eco setting. I can hear the fan on the high setting. I use it on low setting and its still plenty bright. Colors pop. I use mount it with Epson CHF4000 Universal Projector Ceiling Mount.

HUGE improvement at a GREAT price!

The Epson 5050UB projector is a huge improvement over my old Optoma HD25. The colors are superb, the lens shift is possibly the best feature, and it's a super quiet unit. I love this projector and the price is the best in its class and even the next one too!
