An enhanced version of its predecessor, the AD200Pro TTL Pocket Flash Kit from Godox is built around a unique flash source with a standard speedlight head and a bare bulb head that give you the option of two distinctly different qualities of light. The kit comes with the two heads, lithium battery, charger, and carry case.

The speedlight head outputs the standard look of an on-camera flash that can be modified using an optional softbox, beauty dish, or umbrella. The bare bulb head features a removable flash tube and produces 360 degrees of soft, bright, nearly shadowless light. The head uses optional reflectors that focus the beam angle and give you directional control. The AD200Pro has impressive core features such as 200Ws of power adjustable in 9 steps from 1/256 to 1/1, recycling from 0.01 to 1.8 seconds, and flash durations as short as 1/15,380 sec. The flash runs on a removal, rechargeable lithium battery that will give you up to 500 full power flashes and thousands of lower power flashes.

The AD200Pro has 3 flash modes: Manual, TTL, and Multi (Stroboscopic). Manual outputs the user's choice of power, modeling light, first or second curtain sync, etc. Multi controls the stroboscopic rate up to 90 times (90 Hz). TTL takes advantage of the flash head's built-in X1 receiver. Optional X1 TTL transmitters are available for Nikon, Canon, Sony, Olympus, and FUJIFILM cameras. They will also detect a separately purchased LED head. The 32-channel wireless system controls flash mode, first and second curtain sync, High-Speed Sync up to 1/8000 second, power level, modeling lamp, and ready beeper at distances up to 328'. Firmware updates are obtainable on the Godox website.

Godox AD200PRO Reviews

Teething problems

I bought this, after long considering it, with a Godox R200 ring light for macro use. I will try to keep things siloed as far as AD200/R200/etc (X2 for trigger). The R200 is shipped with a label on the connector that strongly encourages firmware update of the AD200 prior to use. This should be a simple operation -- so OK. Unfortunately, the released mac app for firmware update (G3) is/was not usable. FIrst, the app is not properly code signed, so has to be force-run. Second, and far more importantly, after reporting good connection and loading the new firmware the app failed during the update process. This should not have, but seemed to, brick the light. We know how to do safe firmware update these days, and this isn't it. After the failed update, there was no reported connection to the update app on mac. Started an RMA, then tried the windows updater on a VM and I was able to complete the update and rescue the light. So firmware update is pretty clearly windows-only, despite the apps that Godox provides. On top of that, I'm having major issues with TTL exposure using the R200, with no clear correlate for what is causing them. Auto ISO seems to cause more issues than not, but it's not the sole cause. I will get into this more on the R200 review, but it does not seem to be operating as expected. Using the speedlight and bare bulb heads do seem to work well, with accurate TTL exposure control. Unfortunately the R200 as a macro light is the primary reason I purchased this light, so I'm not sure I can keep it.

This is probably the best light I have used. Small, compact and does what you need it. Battery is great. Use with a Godox X2T TTL trigger and works flawless. I suggest getting a nice diffuser and then you're set.

I was looking for an off camera flash that could fill in some light outdoors to prevent harsh mid-day shadows. This flash works exactly how I want it to. I bought a few more so I can do more complex portrait shots along with the simple-to-use light modifiers.

Best Strobe for the Money

You can blind the Sun with this thing. If you've had the Godox V1 for the longest time and need more firepower, then get it. You won't regret it! By all means, keep your V1 but definitely upgrade your key light to this behemoth. It recycles quickly and the batter lasts a ton!

I waited to long to make this purchase!

I own three Godox speed lights, the TT350, V860ii and the V1, with the Pro X trigger (Fuji). This unit is a blessing to own, powerful! It's easy to use in a softbox, beauty dish or with a diffused reflector. The bare bulb option is something new to me that I have not experienced prior to owning this unit. I plan to add a second unit in the near future.

I'm about to add a 2nd AD200. Is it, for any reason, "better" to sell my original and buy 2 PRO's or totally fine to use an older one with the newer PRO version? Thanks.
Asked by: Cory
The new pro units have better color consistency across the power range. The new units recycle faster, 1.8 seconds vs 2.1 for the older model. The new unit adjusts in 1/10 stop increments vs 1/3 stop for the original. So it depends on your shooting situation and how demanding you are when it comes to image quality. If you rarely shoot fast the recycle time is irrelevant. The other 2 improvements though, especially the color consistency, could be enough to make you decide to get a matching set.

The charger will handle 50Hz 200V and 60Hz 110V. The cord is made for the North American market, and requires an adapter to fit a different power outlet.

Is the built-in clamp for speed ring (which is now metal in the upgraded model instead of plastic) the same as the one used by Quantum in their Q-Flash? (The neck of the aluminum speed ring with two slots appears to be the same.)
Asked by: John
I'm not sure what you mean by clamp for "speed ring" however if you are referring to the reflector socket on the AD200 it will accept a Quantum Q Flash reflector with no issues.
