fits perect on head mount for a pulsar gs

Took a chance buying this hoping it would fit a head mount for a gs20 and it does (the screen is upside down but it makes no difference). i use it as NVG with an IR flashlight and it is crystal clear and bright with very high resolution. magnification is less than 1x (guessing about 0.85x or 0.9x) so very useable for walking around. manual focus is easy and closest focus about 15cm. the correct pulsar head mount is 79032. i also bought an external charger for the battery because if the battery ever has any charging problems in future i would rather it happened outside this Aurora and not risk damaging the Aurora too. these batteries are a standard type and cheap to replace.

Extremely pixilated/no stabilization/no zoom...$600???

I am by no means a professional when it comes to low-light photography, but this I do know: You can achieve better low-light photos and video using a much less than $600 camera! Twilight hours video is very pixilated. Additionally, this camera has no stabilization, so if you are hand-holding it, you are going to produce unstable video that is too unstable to correct using post stabilization software. However, to be fair, if you are buying this camera as a security for use in low light (reader note: definitely useless in VERY low-light), and dont mind spilling out $600, it may have practical application.  If there is ambient lighting, it can identify prowlers, provided they are not farther than 30 feet away (forget any zoom - it has none, and SHOULD for the heavy price).

Only worth if you always shoot in very dark environment

For low light condition most consumers tackle like sunset, a dc with large lens aperture will do a much better job as the CCD/CMOS will be much larger than this device. Disregarding the low resolution of this device, the noise of pictures shot at the mentioned condition is much severe than a DSLR or APSC. Its performance can only be realized if shooting in exteme darkness like moonless night in the suburb.

Bought it specifically for airsoft and didnt regret!

As the title says it does the job really good, not PVS-14 good but its in the ball park with it especially if you set it up right. If you cant justify buying a PVS-14 for AS then buy this product. Cant beat price for the performance you will get out of it!

SiOnyx delivers as promised

As I am a photo hobbyist, especially geared toward outdoors exploration and night photography, I was very excited when this camera was announced on kickstarter.com over a year ago and was eagerly waiting for it to become available.  Overall, this camera DELIVERS! I owe several notable equipment such as professional camcorders (XDCAM EX1R, RX0, Alpha 7R2 by SONY) and two night visions including a 3000US$ PVS14. Yes, the low light performance of the Aurora SiOnyx is impressive indeed. It beats any consumer camcorder by a margin. No question on that. But DO NOT expect it to beat a Gen 3 night vision like the 3000US$ PVS14. It can come close by 1 or 2 stops but wont beat it in extreme low light (e.g. moonless night with a few scattered stars, and some residual light scattering from low altitude clouds) The build quality is really well made. They are using hex type screws which is premium, and the quality of finish is similar to what you would encounter on top professional gear like Nikon D5. Still there could have been improvement like a more sturdy focus lens ring, and diopter for the eye piece. The former feels a bit flimsy but overall is not worse than competition. I would have given this product 5 stars, if it was not to the following limiting factors: 1. Image resolution is only 1280 x 720 pixels (Not suitable for real photographic purposes) 2. Focus is FULL MANUAL. NO auto-focus at all! Not a problem for me, as I have always been dealing with manual focus on my pro gear, but in case you do video, you have to set all in advance. Surely, not the camcorder for point and shoot. 3. The diopter adjustment for the eyepiece is a bit flimsy, but again not worse than what you would find on the competition including top camcorders from SONY or Panasonic 4. The focus ring feels plastic a bit, but overall well built with no gaps or creek noises. 5. The inside of the front glass is prone to condensation in case you change suddenly environment (e.g. going from your warm house to cold outdoors) - I wrote about this to SiOnyx support - I admit though, this can also happen to pro-camcorders lenses that cost in excess of 10,000US$. But for such rugged equipment certified IP67, I was expecting the inside to be filled with inert gas like Nitrogen to mitigate this problem. But overall not a serious issue as condensation disappears few minutes once temperature settles. 6. Video and photos suffers from some compression artifacts. There is no way to save RAW data from sensor. Overall, it is a very nice piece of equipment to owe; for outdoors enthusiasts I highly recommend it. Yes, as SiOnyx advertises it: IT IS A NIGHT VISION camera; it definitely outperforms any Gen 1, and Gen 2 night vision gear while offering much more functionalities BUT NOT do not expect it to beat in terms of performance a Gen 3 rated night vision. Also the dynamic range that it can accomodate is great and compares easily to my 7000US$ SONY XDCAM EX1R camcorder.  Yes, I definitely recommend this product if spatial resolution (high megapixel photos) is not a concern and you can live with manual focus.

Technological wonder

Simply put: this little camera is as close as it can be to a truly functional Gen 3-ish night vision device that comes with a wallet-friendly price tag. Plus a few more neat functions. Buy, or regret. Its that simple.

Ordered and received this camera within 4 days. This is excellent service since I live in Australia and was delivered over the Xmas period as well which is really quite impressive. The camera is easy to use and setup and is very good quality. The only problem I have is trying to setup the date and time, for some reason it won’t let me setup the correct details for where I live. It’s not the GPS as that is displaying the correct coordinates. Minor issue at this stage. I have even used the camera in my car as a dashcam, works beautifully. All in all very happy with my purchase.
