Sky-Watcher Heritage Overview

  • 1Description
  • 2Optical Tube Assembly
  • 3Mount
  • 4Included Accessories

Designed to commemorate the International Year of Astronomy, the Sky-Watcher USA Heritage 130mm f/5 Tabletop Reflector Telescope is the ideal combination of power and portability for general all-around astronomy.

The telescope is built using a truss tube system that allows the optical tube assembly (OTA) to be closed to about half its length during transport and storage, with the ability to be opened quickly and easily without having to collimate the mirrors so you can observing quickly. Optically, the Heritage is outfitted with a large 130mm aperture and aluminized paraboloidal mirrors that draw in the light required to make detailed observations of the moon and planets, with the ability to reach outside our solar system to see bright deep-sky objects.

The optical tube is supported by a manual alt-azimuth tabletop mounting system. This mount allows you to set up the scope just about anywhere—from a patio or picnic table to a tailgate or car hood. Rubber feet not only provide a sure footing but offer natural vibration suppression so views remain clear and steady even when people are walking past or there is heavy vehicular traffic. When you need to pack up and go home, simply collapse the tube, rotate it down to minimize the form factor, and grab the mount's integrated handle so you can carry it safely and securely. To get you observing right out of the box, Sky-Watcher includes two eyepieces and a red dot finder.

Optical Tube Assembly

  • Large 130mm aperture allows users to observe the moon and planets with the ability to reach outside the solar system and view deep-sky objects like binary stars, clusters, galaxies, and nebulae
  • Fast f/5 focal ratio keeps views bright and crisp
  • 650mm focal length produces a moderate magnification potential without making it too large or heavy
  • Aluminized paraboloidal mirrors produce sharp and detailed images
  • Collapsible Dobsonian design utilizes truss tubes to extend the optical tube to full length with the ability to close into a compact form factor, making it powerful but portable
  • Truss tube design maintains optical alignment and will not require collimation between uses
  • 1.25" helical focusing mechanism does not require a long drawtube and allows precise adjustments

Mount

  • Manual alt-azimuth design
  • Tabletop design can be set up just about anywhere
  • Rubber feet provide a sure footing and their natural vibration-dampening presents clearer views even when people are walking near or cars are driving by
  • Mount arm is tall enough to allow the optical tube to be pointed straight down for a smaller form factor during transport and storage
  • Integrated carrying handle

Included Accessories

Eyepieces:
  • 1.25" nosepiece makes them compatible with the most popular size drawtubes, focusers, and accessories like filters, Barlows, and diagonals
  • 25mm eyepiece produces a low 26x power that allows users to see wide areas for observing the moon and constellations and scan the sky for comets
  • 10mm eyepiece yields 65x magnification to make detailed observations with a smaller field of view
Finder:
  • Red dot design provides a wide field of view to make alignment fast and star-hopping navigation easy
  • Provides an easy-to-see center aiming dot to make centering your target object simple

Sky-Watcher Heritage Reviews

Better than expected

I have read numerous places the screw focuser was loose and sloppy and that you needed to apply plumbers tape to the treads. They must have improved the design because mine works perfectly as is. I recommend that you watch the YouTube videos showing how to make a shroud that fits inside the tube. My main passion is astrophotography, but once everything is set up and running there's very little to do for 3 or 4 hours. So I bought this scope to enjoy space walking the sky. I love that I can just set this scope down and start observing without in cables, computers, polar alignment or 2 star alignment. It is the opposite of setting up for astrophotography. B&H has impressive systems in place that are reliable and user friendly.

Good viewing, portable. Fun introduction to the skies.

Finderscope is broken

The Finderscope has broken and very loose to fit to telescope. This makes it hard to align with objects. Left a message to customer service on this. If didn't receive response soon then will return the product.

Great if you're a beginner!

I try to use this thing as often as I have a clear sky. looking at the stars and the moon with this is really awe-inspiring. I've been able to see a few nebulas and the moon looks great through it. I haven't seen any planets yet due to where I live and conditions. I thoroughly recommend to newcomers to the hobby.

I like it.

Nice it's not perfect but it's good. The screw lens is a little hard to foces but it's doable

I had some experince with a 50mm refractor that my dad owned, so I'm not an absolute newbie, and with that being said, this one doesn't feel like a toy like a small refractor does. It has great optics and it is just plain capable. It is small so it is not the more powerful telescope in the world, but for something you can carry around I don't think you can ask for more. I just keep it on it's box and travel with it in my car to use whenever I see fit. I was a bit apprehensive since is my first own telescope and people make collimation sound like a hussle, but mine came with the primary slightly out of collimation and it was remarkably easy to realign it. The moon looks just phenomenal. Jupiter and Saturn are pretty and detailed, albeit small. It may be a good idea to purchase more powerful eyepieces along with a low power plossl, since the kellners that comes with this are just ok. I wasn't able to see any deep sky objects yet since I live in a heavily light polluted area. The focuser is regarded as a low point in this kit, and it feels somewhat fragile. It can vibrate a bit, but with a little teflon tape it becomes a lot better to use. The glare of the open design can be bad if you have light sources around, but I solved with a thick cardstock paper. Delivery was really fast, i live in Brazil and it came by DHL in only 10 days. The telescope dobsonian base came with two dents, nothing really big, but I'm finicky with this kind of thing, and I think it was a manufacturer fault since the box was perfectly sealed. The store staff was helpful and informed me perfectly, full remarks to the store.

L-O-V-E-D it. Packaging and shipping came quick fast and well packaged. It has been smoky due to some fires and this weekend is the first new moon since receiving it so the verdict is still out but so far on the two nights we have been able to use it has been clear and fun to look outside of earth into the cosmos. The boys love looking at the close stuff and cant wait to amaze them in the midwestern skies.

Can you attach a camera?

Can you attach a camera?
Asked by: Carter
You can extend the telescope in manner that decreases the distance between the secondary mirror and the primary mirror so that you can get the back focus. And when you want to use it for visual, extend it fully. Another thing being, which is a big problem, those rods holding the secondary mirror might not be able to hold the weight of the camera. But anyways, I think you understood what I meant.

Could the OTA be mounted on a VersaGO-2 mount?

Could the OTA be mounted on a VersaGO-2 mount?
Asked by: Jeffrey J.
I do not believe we carry the VersaGO-2 mount in our System. My apologies. So I am not familiar with this Mount. However if it's Vixen Style Mount, then it will work.
