MindShift Gear Stash Master 13L Reviews

Grab it and Go!

The MindShift 45L backpack will carry all your photo gear. Then grab of 13L Stash Master and take only those items for a specific shoot. One body, two lenses, and a few accessories and your're good to go. Light weight and weather sealed for protection from the elements, the 13L will hold all you need, except your tripod.

A really sensible case

If you are a serious photographer, you probably have many (dozens?) of camera bags using up space. They all purport to be the best, and I have found that they all have their own strengths and special purposes. What I like about this bag was that I could fit my R5 with the 100-500, the RF70-200, my EF primes and my adapter, without any effort, and still have room for a few other small things. This is not a hiking bag, this is a going into the city/country/park, taking some shots and not look like you're carrying thousands of dollars of camera gear bag. It is very nondescript, could be a typewriter in another era, but it does the job. Also MindShift is Think Tank, as in built-like-a-tank, and the gear is just that good. One caveat - there is no strap supplied irrespective of the myriad of sales photos showing someone with the bag strapped on their shoulder. I put a couple of Peak Design anchors on, and used my Peak Design camera strap, and now I have a complete kit.

Not ready for prime time

Quality is good, but functionally it doesn't cut it. Physically it is an inch taller than the insert that comes with the bag, meaning it is very difficult to zip the bag back up. I also would have preferred that backpack straps that come with large insert (one that comes with the bag) vs the handles on the Stash Master

Bought as accessory for Backlight Elite 45L

I bought this as an accessory for my Backlight Elite 45L backpack. It allows me to switch-out the larger camera gear divider for this one when on an overnight trip and need to carry more personal gear, food, cookset. Also a good divider that I could fit in a suitcase, or even strap to my passenger seat with the seatbelt through the handloops to keep my gear safe on the way to and from shoots that don't involve a hike.

Essential 45L accessory

When I go trophy hunting with a larger medium format camera, the full camera insert that comes with the 45L backpack is perfect. More often, though, I'm packing a smaller mirrorless camera with a couple of lenses to take on a hike, and this smaller insert is perfect for use in the pack. It easily stores and protects all the camera gear I need, with plenty of space for other essentials. This makes the backpack so much more versatile. Will get a lot of use.

Good for Overflow Gear

I purchased the MindShift Gear Stash Master 13L to conceal in my roll-behind luggage. I had no idea what I would specifically carry in it, but I was sure I would want gear on trips that wouldn't fit in my shoulder case with my Nikon Z FX-format camera, lenses, microphone, small speedlight, and essential accessories. I typically use the Stash Master to carry a 360 deg VR panoramic head, my larger speedlight, waterproof camera cover, tripod stone bag, a set of small Arca-swiss gadgets, a spare lens or two, and a few other small items that tuck into the corners. The dividers are easy to configure and they keep everything organized and protected. The zipper keeps everything inside and in its assigned compartment and the handles facilitate lowering it into my luggage. Admit it, you have enough overflow gear to justify one (or more) of these!
