Hoya A-77ND8X-GB Overview

The Hoya 77mm ND (NDX8) 0.9 Filter has several uses and offers the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. ND filters appear gray and reduce the amount of light reaching the film. They have no effect on color balance.

Multi-coated to minimize reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting.

Neutral Density filters have four main uses
To enable slow shutter speeds to be used, especially with high speed films, to record movement in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds, or cars
To decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps separate subjects from their background
To decrease the effective ISO of high speed film (above ISO 400) and allow it to be used outdoors in bright situations
To allow cine and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes which could cause overexposure
Neutral Density Factors
2x = ND.3 (exposure adjustment = 1 stop, reduces ISO 1/2)
4x = ND.6 (exposure adjustment = 2 stops, reduces ISO 1/4)
8x = ND.9 (exposure adjustment = 3 stops, reduces ISO 1/8)
As one of the premier filter manufacturers, Hoya filters continue to made from quality glass assuring the photographer clear, sharp and accurate images
Hoya filters consistently provide even color all the way through the filter; All surfaces are ground and polished to specific thickness and tolerances

I had this filter for a couple of months. I used it on Canon 17-40 and 16-35 IS F4. I have trouble cleaning the filter. There are just dots on it that do not come off with anything! I used different cloths and wipes and no luck. other than that the filter construction is robust. Pretty much same as other Hoya filters.

Excellent ND Filter for sun backlite portrait

I bought this filter because it has little change of color in the picture. Also this is the right amount of stops needed for back lite sun portraits and front fill flash.

Seems to work well.

I haven't really used it much yet, but it is well made I believe. I do like the feel, though maybe a bit thick for wide angle. I did put it, a uv filter, a polarizer, and a gnd filter on it and was fine at around 28mm in my 16-35. That's pretty overkill, just was seeing the vignette. The color seems mostly neutral, might be a slight cast but nothing that really causes me concern yet. Hope to get a chance to use it in the field soon.

A good basic filter. It would be really difficult to distinguish it from far more expensive filters IMO

Just right

Sometimes you just need 3 stops!...when 10 is too much Works very well at dusk and when shooting portraits in bright sun.
