Hoya A-82ND8X-GB overview

  • 1Description

The Hoya 82mm Neutral Density (NDX8) 0.9 Filter has several uses and offers the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. ND filters appear gray and reduce the amount of light reaching the film. They have no effect on color balance.

Multi-coated to minimize reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting.

Neutral Density filters have four main uses

To enable slow shutter speeds to be used, especially with high speed films, to record movement in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds, or cars
To decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps separate subjects from their background
To decrease the effective ISO of high speed film (above ISO 400) and allow it to be used outdoors in bright situations
To allow cine and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes which could cause overexposure

Neutral Density Factors

2x = ND.3 (exposure adjustment = 1 stop, reduces ISO 1/2)
4x = ND.6 (exposure adjustment = 2 stops, reduces ISO 1/4)
8x = ND.9 (exposure adjustment = 3 stops, reduces ISO 1/8)
As one of the premier filter manufacturers, Hoya filters continue to made from quality glass assuring the photographer clear, sharp and accurate images
Hoya filters consistently provide even color all the way through the filter; All surfaces are ground and polished to specific thickness and tolerances

    Hoya A-82ND8X-GB reviews

    82mm Neutral Density (NDX8) 0.9 Filter is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 27.
    Rated 5 out of 5 by from works good I travelled to Mammoth Lake and visited the Rainbow falls. Although the it was cloudy, the day was very bright. With my canon 24-70mm attached to 70D mounted on the tripod, I took few shots of the water falls. With the help of the hoya neutral density (NDX8) filter I was able to set shutter speed set at 1/4 sec, with F/7.1 and ISO 100. I am very satisfied with the results ( see attached photo). Please take note that the photo is unedited, the color and brightness and so on is untouched. It came out directly from the camera

    Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good filter but different slim thickness I wish someone could verify something for me... This filter performs beautifully with no color cast and good construction. But compared to the other Hoya Neutral Density filters for other ring diameters, is this filter a little thicker than say.. The 77mm NDX8 .9 filter? The other 2 ND filters I have by Hoya are the respective identical models but for different diameters (77mm and 72mm), but those are almost slimline thicknesses. This 82mm frame is thicker and also made with a matte finish whereas the other 2 are polished metal. Has everyone else had the same experience in product variation across ring diameters or did I get the wrong product shipped to me?

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hoya .9 ND Filter Given, that this is not the super quality but it is not cheap quality either. For $ you can't go wrong. It cuts relections, like a champ. It you are into long exposure shot then this is your friend. The only way to reap the benefits of ND filter is to use it.Theoritical know how is important but hands-on practice is a must. I used it on my Canon 16-35 f2.8L and I am very happy with the results. On a rainy day the wet surfaces bring out saturated colors butit also brings the sky's bluish white reflection. Use this filter and just wow yourself.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Filter for slowing exposure times A 3 stop ND filter that allows me to slow the exposure time of my pictures so that waterfalls and streams look softer and the overall brightness of the image is more easily managed to allow for a wider aperture and less depth of field. The Hoya filter does not affect the color quality of the image. The filter is a little thicker than I am used to but I have not noticed any vignetting on thw 16-35 2.8 L or the 24-70 L Lenses.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Right for Waterfalls I just used this filter last week @ Kent Falls St. Park here in Ct., and results were all I hoped for. My first ND filter so I have a lot more experimenting to do. I think I might get another one to Stack it on for sunlight shots. I should have gotten one of these a long time ago! Easy on & off. No problems what so ever. Attached picture is of a local waterfall here in town.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must have I use it with my 24-70 2.8 to be able to open up to F2.8 while shooting under the bright Sun. Works great.

    Rated 3 out of 5 by from High Quality - very fragile The build is quality, but I rather gently rubbed against the lens and scratched part of the dark covering (filter). Not sure if this is typical of this type of filter, but the dark is not internal (within, or a part of the glass), but rather a coating that can be scratched.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful filter This filter is being used to long-exposure sunsets for the most part on my Sigma 15-30mm lens on my Nikon D80. It allows me to keep the shutter open much longer to create amazing effects on lakes and streams. A must have for everyone!
