Double your video input options with the Shinobi SDI 5" 3G-SDI & 4K HDMI Pro Monitor from Atomos. The flexible Shinobi SDI is on-camera monitor with both 3G-SDI and HDMI inputs, supporting up to DCI 2K via SDI or up to DCI 4K via its HDMI input. It features a 10-bit (8+2 FRC) IPS screen with a brightness of 1000 cd/m², suiting it for use in both exterior and interior conditions.

The Shinobi SDI's AtomHDR display technology enables you to accurately monitor your log gamma footage without having to view flat, washed-out looking images or use a LUT to compress the dynamic range and color space. The monitor supports popular log formats from Sony, Canon, Panasonic, ARRI, RED, and JVC cameras. Preview SDR or HDR LUTs in real time and choose from up to eight custom LUTs loaded in via the SD card slot.

Built to withstand the rigors of production, the Shinobi SDI features a lightweight plastic chassis and can be powered from either a single L-series battery or via the included AC adapter. Additional features include the AtomOS 10 platform with a variety of onscreen exposure analysis, framing, and focus assist tools, as well as anamorphic de-squeeze.

DCI/UHD 4K HDMI and HD-SDI Capabilities
Choose between monitoring up to DCI or UHD 4K footage via HDMI, or up to DCI 2K via the 3G-SDI input.
AtomHDR
With AtomHDR you can monitor up to ten stops of dynamic range of your camera's log image. Most conventional monitors can only display six or seven stops, which is fine for standard footage; but a log image will look overly flat. It is also superior to monitoring with a loaded LUT, which can clip the highlights and mask shadows.
Supported Log Formats

Audio Monitoring
Input/output audio via HDMI or 3G-SDI and output audio using the 3.5mm headphone port for convenient audio monitoring.
5" Daylight-Viewable Screen
The Shinobi SDI features a 5" IPS LCD screen that is illuminated by a bright 1000 cd/m² LED backlight, making it possible to view in daylight without requiring a hood. Plus, the screen is also color-calibrated from the factory to ensure accurate image representation.
HDR Signal Management
Log and HDR signals can be difficult to monitor with conventional equipment. With the Shinobi SDI's built-in HDR signal management functions, the log signal can be converted to the PQ standard for compatibility with existing consumer and professional HDR equipment.
AtomOS 10 Platform
The AtomOS 10 platform offers an extensive selection of display tools including focus peaking, 4:1, 2:1, 1:1 zoom, zebra, false color, frame guides, SMPTE safe area, waveform, histogram, RGB parade, vectorscope, 2x, 1.5x, and 1.33x anamorphic de-squeeze, multiview 'Analysis' mode, and more.

Missing basic functions

I may have missed it but I couldn't find a grid display anywhere. If I'm correct and it doesn't have one, how in the world would you leave this out? If I'm wrong then disregard this review.

Best atomos I ever had.

I had Ninja 2 and V and they simply didn't match my workflow (never actually needed an external recorder). This screen is exactly what I was looking for, a reliable second screen for my second camera (C200).

For the price and size, I like it. There are a ton of 5 inch monitors in the market, but I like the feature set that Atomos provides.

Perfect monitor to pair with my new red Komodo and didn't cost me an arm and a leg. Shipped super fast too.

This has one feature I have wanted for a long time - a full-width waveform keyed over the picture. This makes it much easier to find objects too bright or too dark.

I'm looking for a reference monitor for the URSA ...

I'm looking for a reference monitor for the URSA Mini Pro G2. The URSA outputs 12G-SDI while this monitor has 3G-SDI. I assume that means I CAN still get a monitoring signal and just not record 4K to the monitor? Since this isn't a recording monitor anyways that should be all I need it for. Looking at this and the SmallHD 5.5" FOCUS OLED Monitor (SDI). Anybody know if this is a good fit?
Asked by: Cole
This monitor will work with the Ursa Mini Pro G2. You will just need to set the SDI to output HD only, which the camera can do while recording 4K.

Does this monitor playback RED DSMC 2 footage at 8k 60fps?
Asked by: brad
The Shinobi is a monitor. There is no internal recording capability or data storage. The Shinobi doesn’t “playback”. The Shinobi’s inputs are 3G-SDI 4K or 4K HDMI. Research the RED DSMC’s output capabilities during playback. Does it’s output capabilities match the listed Shinobi’s input capabilities? To help you out, here are Red’s listed playback specs. It does not playback 8K60 or even 4K60. By the listed specs on the website the Red max playback is 1080. 3G-SDI (HD-SDI) and HDMI with DSMC2 expander module 1080p RGB or 4:2:2, 720p RGB or 4:2:2 480p RGB or 4:2:2 (HDMI only) SMPTE Timecode, HANC Metadata, 24-bit 48 kHz Audio

I have the ZCam M4 which can do 4k at 160fps. I do a lot of slow motion video. As you may know, this camera really doesn't have a monitor. So what would you suggest in terms of a monitor that can see these higher frame rates?
Asked by: Matthew
The higher frame rates are being recorded internally... The HDMI output will be set so that the monitor can interpret and see the footage. In the case of the Shinobi, it will see up to 60fps in DCI 2K and 1080.
