Saramonic UwMic9 Overview

  • 1Description

The UwMic9 2-Person Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Mic System & Case Kit from B&H adds an SKB iSeries waterproof hardshell case to safely and securely house and transport the entire system. The kit includes two bodypack transmitters, two omnidirectional lavalier microphones, and a compact two-channel receiver.

  • Saramonic UwMic9 2-Person Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System (514 to 596 MHz)

The Saramonic UwMic9 2-Person Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System provides vloggers, mobile journalists, and content creators with a quality-sounding, easy-to use, flexible UHF system that packs a set of sophisticated features into a cost-effective solution.

Built for the rough-and-tumble world of production, the lightweight, all-metal components include two bodypack transmitters with lavalier mics, along with a two-channel receiver that's ready to plug into your DSLR/mirrorless camera, recorder, or smartphone (with a cable available separately).

The system allows you to record two separate people to your camera without requiring a second receiver, keeping your rig portable and compact—with one less component to worry about.

Simple to operate with minimal setup, the UwMic9 lets you capture clear and natural speech for projects ranging from YouTube vlogs and wedding videos to corporate spots and interviews.

    Flexible Operation for Clean Sound
    • Each bodypack transmitter uses a locking 3.5mm connection to secure its SR-M1 lavalier mic. A short press of the power button mutes the mic between takes.
    • The UWMIC9’s Auto Scan feature searches among 96 frequencies to find the cleanest available frequency for you, while the built-in infrared sync makes linking the transmitter and receiver a snap.
    • Easy-to-understand menus and controls, along with backlit LCD displays, allow you to make quick adjustments under varying lighting conditions.
    • The TX9 transmitters can accept mic or line inputs and offer three selectable levels of wireless transmission power. The highest setting is designed to overcome interference in busy RF environments or when the subject is further from the receiver; lower settings conserve battery power.
    • A headphone output on the receiver enables real-time audio monitoring, especially useful if your camera lacks a headphone output.
    • The receiver’s output can be switched between mono and stereo modes. In mono, the two mics are mixed together and recorded as an identical mono signal on both the left and right channels in your camera. In stereo, each mic is kept separate and recorded discretely to the left and right channels in your camera.
    • Power is supplied via AA batteries for up to 6 hours of battery life.
    • The system offers a maximum distance of up to 330’ and supports up to 8 mics at once on set.
Expand Your System and Do More
    • For man-on-the-street interviews or if you need to pass the mic between several people, you can add the HU9 wireless handheld microphone.
    • Adding the TX-XLR9 plug-on transmitter allows you to connect any handheld microphone of your choice or a shotgun mic for wireless booming. You can even apply 48V phantom for condenser mics.
    • A wide selection of optional output cables (available separately) allows you to connect the receiver to smartphones and tablets via Lightning or USB Type-C ports, or the TRRS headphone output. There is also a mini-USB cable for action cameras, a USB Type-A cable for computers, and a 3.5mm to dual XLR-M cable for professional cameras.
  • SKB iSeries Waterproof Case for Two-Channel Sony or Saramonic Wireless Mic Systems

The iSeries Waterproof Case for Two-Channel Sony or Saramonic Wireless Mic Systems from SKB is a compact, durable, injection-molded, military-standard waterproof case constructed from a high-strength polypropylene copolymer resin. This case fits two Bodypack Transmitters and one two-Channel Portable Receiver (sold separately), and features a gasketed, waterproof and dustproof submersible (IP67-rated) design that makes it resistant to impact damage and corrosion, allowing you to protect your wireless system during transport and storage.

The case features stainless-steel molded-in hinges, a trigger-release latch system, and a comfortable snap-down rubber over molded cushion grip handle. An automatic ambient pressure equalization valve (MIL-STD-648C) prevents pressure buildup of gasses and vapors inside the case.

In addition, the interior of the case features custom-cut PE (polyethylene) foam that can accommodate a wireless plug-on transmitter, two wireless bodypack transmitters, and a wireless bodypack receiver, with an extra spot for a lavalier microphone plus additional accessories.

Saramonic UwMic9 Reviews

UwMic9 2-Person Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Mic System & Case Kit (514 to 596 MHz) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 29.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality for the price I was using 2 RODE Filmmaker wireless mics previously. I love RODE and loved these mics but the problem I kept having was the lavaliers kept going bad. RODE is awesome at fixing but it takes time to return your units and get them back. So I bouth these as a backup for the next time I had to send my RODE mics in to repair. WOW, I could not believe how good they sound, the quality of construction, and ease of use. I shoot with a Panasonic GH5 and there was no problems at all. I now use these as my primary mics and my RODE Filmaker kit as a backup.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for what I need it for and the price! Ordered this setup mainly to improve audio on sizzle shoots when I have to travel light. The casing is really sturdy and the single receiver for two lavs is great for when you don't have a lot of inputs on your recording device. Mics are good quality for interviews and in-scene sound. Practical range is not as wide as some higher end setups, but works perfectly within a couple of large rooms distance. I would definitely get another if need be... but then again, ask me in 6 months, the wear and tear is TBD. Overall, it's a good product and so far I am very happy with it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good value This is crazy. I've used the Sony's these obviously are modeled on and to be honest aside from the lack of input gain on the transmitters, the cheap lav mics and the nasty battery tray this could be the same in every other way, bar the cost. They are nicely built. Battery life and range seem very similar. I've been using them for a month without a drop out. I'm tempted to swap out the lav mics for something nicer and the no input gain thing sucks but these minor complaints for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best deal for dual Lavaliers. These wireless units are great. Only minor draw back is that they are heavy. Other than that they work as designed. Full rich sound. I’ve had no issues. I have seen some reviews from people complaining about a little RF interference , well change the channel. RF interference happens with the best wireless units out there. I know this because I am an audio engineer by trade and use multiple wireless units from different manufactures everyday in the professional environment. But when it comes to me spending my dollars I have to look for quality at a good price point. And I myself have purchased two of these units. One for a sit down video podcast and one for my personal use. The units work as they should and do a very good job. No regrets with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from There was a happy surprise. I wanted something that was affordable without taking a hard cut in quality. I'm very happy with these. They do what a lav system is supposed to do. I used them in the field for three different projects, then found a happy surprise in editing. While sound mixing the interviews, I actually had to take a moment and try to figure out which mic was the lav, and which was the boom... Of course after listening closely, it's possible to figure out, but talk about a sound mixer's dream, when the overall tone and feel of the lav turns out so similar to the boom... (which in these cases was a Rode NTG-3.) Most of my takes were clean. I noticed some transmitter pops while shooting multiple subjects walking down the hallway interior of an old motel. Maybe something in the walls, who knows. Whatever - overall, very pleased. Especially for that price tag! Things to NOTE: You may also need to purchase a stereo 1/8" to DUAL XLR cable. The transmitter only outputs in stereo 1/8", using L and R as ch1 and ch2, however the kit only includes a 1/8" to single XLR cable (which if used, would consolidate both lavs to one channel). BAD! (Make sense?)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Budget System This system works great for users that understand the limitations and need a alternative to the much more pricey options. While using this system I've had issues with Audio cutting out briefly due to signal range while indoors. Overall I am still pleased with the build of this system. I use these with the Hosa Technology Pro Stereo Breakout Cable (3.5mm Stereo Mini to Dual 3-Pin XLR Male). This allows you to separate the stereo signal output into 2 separate XLR outputs for recording.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not for Pros I don't know if this is across the board with these lav mics, but my set has a high pitch hiss. It's not something that can't be taken out in post, but it would be nice if it wasn't there... That is my biggest complaint. They are sturdy, pairing was easy, the windscreen on the lav is large, borderline too large...? I would not recommend this for pros, but it is decent if you are on a budget.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Outside seems sturdy but... I've only had these for a week so no major testing yet. I did try them out when they first arrived and all sounded good. I was impressed by the heavy metal casing but after a couple battery changes the very thin plastic on the battery holder cracked. If you're purchasing this product take extra care when replacing batteries!

question

Can I connect transmitters with Sennheiser ME 2-II or they have a different thread?
Asked by: Alexandr M.
Yes, you can. The Saramonic transmitters use the same wiring protocol as mics wired for Sennheiser with locking 1/8" connectors. In fact, I used a ME2 on mine.

question

Can anyone confirm if this system combines the two lav signals into a mono signal, or if you can output each lav to a discrete L or R channel?
Asked by: David
I own this Saramonic system and depending on the situation I will switch it to either send each channel discretely over the L and R output or to send a mix through both outputs. You must remember to change the setting on the transmitter to either Mono/Stereo depending on the situation. The kit comes with a 3.5mm and an XLR cable output for the receiver, but you can also purchase a cable separately from Saramonic which splits into two XLR's. I find this handy if I'm recording with one of my Canon XF camcorders that has two XLR inputs and I want to speed up workflow by recording the audio directly into the camera.
