Poised for portraiture, the Sony E-mount Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4 is a short-telephoto lens characterized by its fast f/1.4 maximum aperture. The bright design offers great control over depth of field, for isolating subjects using selective focus, and also excels in low-light conditions. The optical design features four high refractive index elements, which help to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion in order to realize high sharpness and clarity. One extra-low dispersion element is also featured, which controls color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to realize a high degree of clarity and color accuracy. Individual elements also feature an Ultra Multi-Coating, which suppresses flare and ghosting for greater contrast in strong lighting. Complementing the optical design is an Ultrasonic Dual Linear motor, and an internal focusing design, which offers fast and quiet autofocus performance. Additionally, a rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to pleasing bokeh quality.

Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4 Reviews
autofocus doesn't work
I don't recommend it, autofocus doesn't work if you take pictures through the viewfinder and if you focus through live view (not a good idea if you use a DSLR camera) then out of a series of 100-150 shots 1 or 2 shots can be used somehow, if it does not zoom in. the rest are not in focus at all. And these few from 100-150 are also not sharp. Sharp only through manual focusing. even at aperture 2.8 it does not have sharpness. I bought a lens station, but I could not do anything. There is no new firmware after 2018. Samyang support says that sorry, but we are not aware of such an error and that's it. I just strongly advise against it and that's it. Please B&H, do not sell us such equipment
Cosmetic defect
The lens functions adequately for a bargain priced lens. Autofocus is quiet and smooth. The first lens I ordered came with a cosmetic defect. There was no AF-MF cover over the switch on the lens. I exchanged the lens for a new lens and the replacement lens came with the exact same defect. B&H was not able to give me an answer as to why the lenses had this defect. They did give me a partial discount for keeping the lens. I emailed customer service at Samyang US (there is no phone number listed that I can call) and the customer service listed on the Korean website. After 2 weeks, I still have not had any response from either one of my emails. Nevertheless, I will not be purchasing any more Samyang products because customer service is non-existent.
