Onkyo TXRZ840 Overview

  • 1Description

Enjoy UHD, HDR, and 3D content via HDMI with the Onkyo TX-RZ840 9.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver. It produces up to 120W of power per channel at 8 Ohms for room-filling sound. AccuEQ Advance sound calibration allows you to tailor the sound to your room's specific acoustics.

Built-in Bluetooth connectivity lets you listen to music wirelessly from your favorite Bluetooth-capable devices, while built-in Wi-Fi connectivity provides access to your Spotify, TIDAL, and other online services. You can control the receiver with just your voice via the Google Assistant built into your compatible device thanks to Chromecast built-in, or via Siri with your HomePod. The TX-RZ840 is equipped with seven HDMI inputs and two HDMI outputs. One of the HDMI outputs supports eARC for the reproduction of TV-based audio, such as your TV's built-in apps.

Note: Access to certain Internet-based content may require a subscription to a service. Not all services are available in all areas.

IMAX Enhanced, Available via a Future Firmware Update
IMAX Enhanced receivers feature DTS:X audio decoding designed to reproduce the full dynamic range of IMAX sound mixes available in digitally remastered IMAX Enhanced content. IMAX Mode reproduces IMAX Enhanced content at high levels, as the filmmakers intended. IMAX Enhanced versions of films are scheduled for 4K HDR streaming and UHD Blu-ray release.
THX Certified Select Theater-Reference Audio
THX Certified Select virtually guarantees theater-reference sound in your home. To gain certification, amplifiers must pass bench tests covering every aspect of performance. THX Certified Select components are designed to suit rooms where the screen-to-seat distance is roughly 10 to 12'.
Dolby Atmos and DTS:X Upmixing Technologies
Dolby Atmos and DTS:X formats are designed to map sounds in 3D space, causing them to seem to move around the room for a more immersive movie experience. With 11.2-channel pre-outs and 11-channel processing, you can enjoy 3D sound through your 5.2.4- or 7.2.2-channel speaker layout without additional amps, or up to 7.2.4-channel with an additional amplifier. Dolby Surround and DTS Neural:X both find cues in legacy soundtracks and upmixes them for spatial playback.
Dolby Atmos Height Virtualizer, Available via a Future Firmware Update
When playing any Dolby format, engaging the Dolby Atmos Height Virtualizer helps provide a more immersive listening experience, creating virtual surround sound and height effects from more traditional speaker layouts.
Dynamic Audio Amplification (DAA)
Dynamic Audio Amplification helps stabilize power delivery for accurate control and enhanced dynamics. The High-Current Low-Noise Power Transformer and 15,000 μF high-current capacitors are designed to provide instant power while non-phase-shift amps capture a 5 Hz to 100 kHz frequency response. To keep them cool, an extruded aluminum heat sink controls resonance frequencies while cutting thermal distortion.
SMART AV Receiver Technology
SMART AV Receiver technology provides access to streaming content from Amazon Music, Spotify, TIDAL, Deezer, and TuneIn and allows you to share it as part of a multi-room system via Works with Sonos, Chromecast built-in, AirPlay 2, DTS Play-Fi, and FlareConnect.
Works with Sonos
The TX-RZ840 can integrate into your existing Sonos ecosystem by pairing it with an optional Sonos Connect, allowing it to wake up, change inputs, and play at the desired volume on command via the Sonos app.
Chromecast built-in with the Google Assistant
Stream music from your compatible smartphone, laptop, or computer to the receiver. Control playback with Chromecast-enabled apps from your iOS or Android phone or tablet, Mac or Windows computer, or Chromebook. If you have a device with the Google Assistant built-in, you can control music on the TX-RZ840 by voice.
Whole-Home Audio
Orchestrate audio playback in up to three rooms at once with the Onkyo Controller app. The TX-RZ840 has two extra DACs to distribute unique or synced audio sources via Zone 2 and Zone 3 speaker outputs, including HDMI, SPDIF, network, and Bluetooth sources. With nine discreet amplifiers, you can enjoy a 5.2.2-channel layout in your main room with powered Zone 3, or a 5.2-channel surround system in your main room with powered audio distribution to Zones 2 and 3.
Quad-Core SoC with Wi-Fi 5
The onboard SoC (system on a chip) is designed to process multiple tasks at once and supports dual-band Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac, 2x2 MIMO) with backward compatibility.
Vocal Enhancer
The Vocal Enhancer is designed to solve the issue with inaudible dialogue in TV shows and movies. DSP technology identifies voice frequencies and lets you adjust them using the remote control or the front-panel controls.
Zone 2/Zone B Line-Out
Connect your compatible hi-fi system via the analog RCA inputs to the receiver's Zone 2/Zone B line out port. In Zone 2 mode, you can play the same or different audio source in either or both rooms at the same time. Zone B mode is more designed for use with a wireless transmitter, enabling you to listen to a source through your wireless headphones.
AccuEQ Advance Sound Calibration with AccuReflex
AccuEQ Advance uses nine-point mic measurement to calibrate and equalize the speakers and subwoofers and help remove standing waves that occur when sound from the speakers resonates with sound reflecting off the walls, compromising its proper expression. During the process, background noise is ignored to help ensure accurate equalization. AccuReflex is designed to optimize 3D sound from your height speakers by resolving phase shift for a more cohesive sound field.
Custom Installation Connectivity
The TX-RZ840 features a 12V trigger output for an external component and an IR input for remote control range extension. It also supports IP control, RS-232C, and an OSD output for custom installers. Additionally, an optional rackmount kit is available.
eARC Support
The HDMI Main Out supports eARC transmission of HD audio from compatible displays. It works with 3D audio formats such as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, as well as the Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio lossless codecs. High bitrate and object-based audio featured in videos streamed via your smart TV, smartphone app, or connected network media dongle can now be decoded and amplified by the receiver at their native quality.
