JOBY 3K PRO Overview

The black, charcoal, and red GorillaPod 3K PRO Kit from Joby is an optimal combination of support designed for videographers and photographers alike. JOBY BallHead 3K PRO (Black/Charcoal/Red)

The BallHead 3K PRO from Joby is a 6.7-ounce, 3"-tall compact support that is Arca-type compatible, and it is ideal to use with smaller mirrorless cameras because of its smaller footprint. The ball head can support strobes, mics, and other photo and video accessories, and it can be mounted via its 1/4"-20 socket onto a bracket or rig. The single locking knob controls both the 90° tilt and the 360° rotation. The black, charcoal, and red colors of the BallHead 3K Pro match the GorillaPod 3K PRO Stand to create an optimal kit.

JOBY GorillaPod 3K PRO Stand (Black/Charcoal)

The GorillaPod 3K PRO Stand from Joby, with its anodized aluminum and patented metal socket technology, offers a durable 9.6-ounce stand with a load capacity of 6.6 pounds, ideal for mirrorless cameras and other photo/video accessories. The legs' ball-and-socket construction can wrap and grip securely around pipes, rails, and tree branches for a unique angle while capturing video or photo. At the same time, the stand holds its position on a flat surface, and you can fold it to a length of 9" to use it as a grip for a small digital/video camera. The black and charcoal colors of the stand match the BallHead 3K PRO, which can mount to the stand via its 1/4"-20 mount, to create an optimal kit.

Is the accra swiss plate a standard accra swiss plate? I want to use my L-Bracket so that I can keep my camera over the tripod instead of to the side so it doesn't tip over.
Asked by: George
It is the width of a standard Arca-Swiss clamp but is rather small all around. I wouldn’t trust it with a large DLSR.

Is the legs (balls) made out of metal?
Asked by: Eric
The joints are a hybrid of metal and plastic. The socket component of each ball joint is metal, while the inner ball component is made of ABS plastic.

I do macro photos of objects on the ground and want to see if this would allow the camera to be horizontal to the ground and low. The tip of my macro lens woud be about 1/2-1" above the object being photographed. Will this tripod do this?
Asked by: Art
It will; the bottom of the camera will be about 4" off the ground and it's lowest.

When I remove the small Arca-Swiss plate that ...

When I remove the small Arca-Swiss plate that comes with the Joby 3K Pro Kit, the remaining Arca-Swiss clamp on top of the Joby has a spring loaded pin that interferes with my A-S plates at the bottom of all my cameras/lenses. Can that pin be removed some how?
Asked by: Frank
I tried various tapes to hold that pin down flat. Scotch tape does not hold it, black electric tape neither, nor does black Gorilla tape. That tiny spring underneath wins every time after 24 hours of pushing the pin up. I simply sawed the top part of that pin off as it cannot be removed by itself. To do so, I used a table top big vise to fasten the Joby arca clamp in and took a hand held vise to keep the pin from freely moving or rotating and sawed along the bottom of that pin at all angles with a small sharp metal cutting handsaw blade for a couple of hours, day in, day out until there was almost nothing left in the center of that pesky pin. Then a few jerks and twists just ripped the top 1-2 mm of it off and it can no longer intrude with my various Arca plates (all from RRS). I now can center my lenses with ease by sliding the plates left and right on the Joby 3K with that needless 'irremovable' pin shortened enough to stay down in its 'hole'. Maybe Joby could alter its design for this to become easier ?

Does the 3k Pro have the quick release feature of the 3k kit?
Asked by: Sandra
Yes, that knob that you see on the top above the red area that you see is a screw for an Accra Swiss L-Bracket so you can change between your tripod and this JOBY GorillaPod.

Is this 3K Pro strong enough to hold my Nikon D610?
Asked by: Lex
Yes, it should depending on the lens you add to it. I've used a D750 and D5 on it with a 24-70. I wouldn't push it pass that weight.
