PORTKEYS OEYE-3G Reviews

Nice image, basic flaws

Really nice image but shows artefacts on edges making focusing tricky sometimes, high quality build, size and weight and not noisy anymore either. Very basic menu system that’s not close to being as refined as say a Zacuto, it uses a non industry standard power connector so will make things difficult to get alternate cables made or repaired, and the rosette is non industry standard not suing a 1/4” thread so if you plan to use it you’ll have to tap it to a 1/4”. Generally a great accurate image, let down by an ordinary menu and feature set and non industry standard fittings. A good alternative to Zacuto but with some definite downsides.

Nice but overpriced

We need SDI electronic viewfinders that are less than $500. OLED is a bit of a hype.

The OEYE-3G works very well with HDMI 1080p. It has a diopter to adjust focus to suit your eye. Setup via the menu is easy, with perhaps the only exception being Anamorphic settings. This EVF uses 'Aspect' in order to get the correct de-squeezed image. I have not tested if HDMI to SDI cross convert works. It has peaking, zebras, false colour, waveforms, etc. - pretty much most of your standard monitor/evf features, and you can also map up to 3 to a quick access button. Mounting is easy with a 1/4 20 mount and a rosette mounts (M6). It is powered via dc cable or dtap. both are included and it comes in a hard case. Form factor is bigger than, say, one of the expensive high end Zacuto EVFs. But it's not huge. My only slight negative is the heat - it does get fairly warm. but it's nothing major

It could be so great

This could be a great viefinder...but: the fan is incredibly loud and makes this viewfinder useless. I had to return it. I hope, the next version of this EVF will be quiet....

nice EVF

The only thing is it doesn't exist crossconvert video signal in between HDMI and SDI, the rest was pretty closed to perfect under my Canon 1DXmk2 system.

Really Great But Loud

Mine finally arrive and I LOVE it but the fan noise is really annoying. Pitch of the fan changes and you move the EVF around.

What 4-pin mating connector (panel mount) part number do I need to run off my own dc power source?
Asked by: JP
The 4-Pin connection is a Hirose to a D-Tap. At this time we do not have a Hirose to AC Power supply. However IndiPro Tools does offer an AC Power supply with D-Tap Outputs. You could use this as an AC Power supply with the included cable. https://bhpho.to/2VbIgWN

What are the real world powering options? Lemo 4-pin to what? What is the recommended way to power the viewfinder with a Mirrorless camera setup?

This EVF will include a D-Tap power cable. You will need to run it off of a battery that has a D-Tap Connection, such as a V-Mount battery like B&H # INVMP98S. https://bhpho.to/2QVJdNP

Does the evf come with a mounting arm?
Asked by: Daniel
It does not, however it does have a rosette connection and threadings for mounting. It will all just depend on the camera and rig you use the EVF with to determine he proper arm for your needs. An example of an EVF Mount for use with a 15mm Rod System would be B&H # CAEVF02. https://bhpho.to/2LFg5w8
