Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 MF Reviews

You get what you pay for!

This lens was purchased for ultra-wide landscape and astrophotography and it seems to be super sharp in the center mid area very close to the margins except corners witch can be quite soft at f2.8. but they get decent sharp at f4 and up. Overall the build quality is very good, the lens is quite heavy and the focus is very smooth. For the reduced price of $369 - this lens is really worth is price, at $499 - probably I'll look elsewhere - like Laowa. Pros: - Ultra wide prime at a decent price - f2.8 - Good overal built quality - Precise and smooth focus ring - Super sharp in most of the frame Cons: - Big and heavy - No front filter support - Soft corners at f2.8 - Non removable hood

So far I've only used this in the studio. It is a sharp lens. Very quick delivery and well packed by B&H. Much appreciated. This lens was not bought to shoot quick rather to shoot carefully and with more thought then just point and shoot. The build quality seems top notch. Very smooth focus. Great lens cap. Electronics would be nice but you'll get by if you're a old school photographer that came up in the 4x5/8x10 days when you had to be very methodical.

Excellent super-wide coverage at a reasonable price

The Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 has high resolution even wide open and is very sharp corner to corner by f/4.5. Color rendition is well balanced and provides excellent contrast. It's solid and feels like a quality lens in every way. The review stating it will not work on a R series camera is obviously in not correct. I've used this lens on a R, RP and R5 with absolutely no issues. The electronic aperture control works and the camera recognizes the lens settings You do, of course need to set the camera to release shutter with no lens to allow operation with any non-Canon manual lens. The only minor negative is that you can't easily attach a filter to the front of the lens. The include, attache lens hood does provide some minimal protection to the lens however.

Value for the money

Well made with excellent image quality. Since I will be using this primarily for landscape work being manual focus is not detrimental. I look forward to using the more in the months ahead.

As in the title, the quality of this lens is amazing. Steel, solid and sturdy. As for the photo quality, it leaves a little to be desired but, more or less it's for landscape photos. I'd recommend just off the price alone but, mind you, it's not a zoom. 14mm Prime.

I purchased this lens for astrophotography. It works very well with my Z5. I'm a fairly new photographer, especially with mirror less cameras, so using manual focus has been a bit of a challenge. This lens has been easy for me to learn on. I was able to take a nice photo in my backyard and see stars that were hidden due to light pollution. I used a tripod, opened the aperture and set the shutter to 15 seconds. Will be taking a trip to Shenandoah national park soon and hope to get a nice photo of the milky way. I highly recommend this lens.

Surprised.

Very surprised at how well this little manual lens performs.

Does exactly what I expect

I have been using Rokinon lenses for astrophotography for years and have come to expect great things out of them. Whether it is the 14mm or the 24mm I am using I don't want to end up with something I can't use at the end of a session. After moving to the new Z6 I continued using my old Rokinons and they worked just fine. But I decided I wanted to have a Z mount Rokinon and do away with the convertor. The only complaint I have is the lens is heavy. But the pictures are fantastic!

how’s this different from using the F-mount version with the FTZ adapter(That combination might be a bit lighter too)
Asked by: Shailendra
I would add that this is a fully manual lens. The adapter seems to be machined metal bolted onto the same lens that the F-mount lens uses, and the adapter adds quite a bit of weight, takes up quite a bit of space in your bag, and is not removable. If you have an FTZ adapter, you may be better off getting one of Rokinon/Samyang's F-mount offerings.

It should be in the B&H specs portion of the product page. This is a terrible example of a rokinon lens. Not worth the money.

will this lens give aperture and shutter speed information on a Z6?
Asked by: Irfan
No, it will not. As the Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 Lens for Nikon Z is a fully manual lens and does not have electronic contacts on the lens mount to transfer communication between the camera and lens, EXIF data, exposure data, and focus data is not transferred to the camera.
