Built to deliver top-shelf sound in a compact, bag-friendly, and easy-to-use format for singer-songwriters, guitarists, and podcaster duos, the third-generation Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2x2 USB audio interface lets artists and content creators score pro-level tone with no learning curve, no matter where they go.

Equally capable for tracking vocals and instruments, the two improved Scarlett microphone preamps feature switchable phantom power for condenser mics and a selectable-per-channel Air circuit, which adds clarity-enhancing brightness based on Focusrite's legendary ISA preamplifier. The two XLR-1/4" combo inputs are outfitted with switches that allow them to accept signal directly from electric instruments such as guitar and bass or from line-level sources such as stereo mixer outputs or a hot feed from a drum machine.

Unlocking the ability to record at standard CD quality or high-fidelity resolutions, the 24-bit / 192 kHz AD/DA converters ensure that signals are captured and reproduced with detail and accuracy. Listen through headphones or connect active speakers to the balanced 1/4" monitor outputs, and enjoy independent control of the headphone and speaker volume settings. Use selectable direct monitoring in mono or stereo to hear your live input signal with no distracting echo or latency.

With its bus powering for uninhibited portability, space-saving USB Type-C connection, and extensive software bundle including virtual instruments, plug-in effects, loops, and more, the Scarlett 2i2 gives you plenty of powerful tools to kick-start your inspiration; just plug the Scarlett 2i2 into your Mac/Windows computer or iPad Pro (with USB Type-C), fire up your preferred audio recording software, and let the creativity flow.

Portable and Bus Powered
Both compact and lightweight, the Scarlett 2i2 is rugged and ready to travel with you. Being bus powered via USB Type-C connectivity, it can be used in any room or even remote locations, with your preferred DAW on a Mac/Windows computer or using an iPad Pro equipped with USB Type-C and a music-making app such as Garageband, Cubasis 2, Auria Pro, Ampify Launchpad, Ampify Groovebox, or Ampify Blocs Wave.
Pristine, High-Resolution Conversion
Thanks to its high-performance 24-bit / 192 kHz AD/DA converters, the Scarlett 2i2 is equipped to capture any source from vocals to acoustic and electric instruments clearly and accurately, so you never have to worry about the interface clouding your sound.
Scarlett Mic Preamps with Customizable Tone
The two upgraded third-generation Scarlett mic preamps features switchable 48V phantom power to accommodate your favorite condenser mic and a selectable-per-channel Air setting, which reproduces the Air effect of Focusrite's original ISA mic preamp to impart enhanced brightness and openness on your vocal recordings.
Instrument/Line Input Switches
The XLR-1/4" combo inputs on the Scarlett 2i2's front panel allow distortion-free recording of instruments such as electric guitar and bass, synthesizers, or drum machines, and there's no need for a DI box or amplifiers. At the press of a button, each 1/4" input can be used for line-level sources like a mixer's stereo output or the line outs from guitar and bass amps.
Straightforward Controls and Level Indication
With the Scarlett 2i2's Easy Start tool and independent gain knobs with multicolor gain halo meters, you'll have no trouble getting set up and dialing in the perfect levels. Plus, there are no menus or complicated controls to slow you down.
Independent Headphone and Monitor Outputs
The balanced 1/4" TRS monitor outputs on the rear panel ensure hum-free connectivity with balanced studio monitors. For critical listening through headphones, just plug your earphones or headphones into the front-panel 1/4" headphone jack. Separate knobs are provided for quick and independent adjustment of the monitor and headphone volumes.
Latency-Free Monitoring
No musicians want to record if they can't hear their performance clearly. Use the Scarlett 2i2's direct monitor switch to listen to your input signals in mono or stereo, exactly as they are supposed to sound, with no latency and no distracting echo.

Get Professional Audio into Your Computer

Recording quality on a computer is limited by the onboard DAC (Digital to Audio Converter) on the motherboard. If you plug a good mic into a computer mic jack, you use the onboard DAC for the conversion and usually get less-than-ideal results. The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 converts the audio source with its built-in and better DAC. With USB output, you then transfer this better audio directly into your recording software, greatly improving the audio quality. Anyone trying to record professional audio on a computer without a high-quality sound card needs this tool.

I've done only basic testing so far, but everything has gone as expected. It's a simple unit that does what it says. I can see why it's popular. B&H even threw in a new headset, which I needed.

Use with only 1 headset

I purchased this hoping we could use it for podcasting, which we can, however later found out we need a headset splitter for multiple headsets. No biggie, still works great and is easy to use.

Dependable and consistent. The Focusrite Scarlett is the only choice for those looking for an interface.

Easy to use and fills my need

This device is perfect for decent audio in doing Zoom interviews or other purposes. It was easy to set up and configure on Windows 10, and lets me monitor my own voice and my interviewee(s) in my headset. It has more software with it than I will ever use. But if you decide to use the free Ableton Live, which is loaded with features, be aware that it will eat up nearly 25 Gbytes of disk space. I'm not needing it as all I need is a simple DAW like Reaper or Audacity--both of which I have. And finally, B&H service is impeccable--as usual!

I was recording through a lav mic straight into my Nikon z6 dslr, could not get rid of clipping. Decided to invest in some equipment this unit included, and oh wow the difference is unbelievable. So glad I purchased this.

Would the line outs from an ART DJ Pre II ...

Would the line outs from an ART DJ Pre II Turntable Phono Preamplifier work with the line inputs on the Scarlet 2i2?
Asked by: Douglas
Yes, they will. Keep in mind that the inputs on the 2i2 are mono, so you will need to connect each output (L/R) from the ART to an individual input, using a dual RCA to 1/4" cable: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/828244-REG/Hosa_Technology_HPR_003X2_HPR_003X2_Dual_1_4_TS.html

For a podcast setup with 2 people speaking is there an advantage to the Gen. 3 over the Gen. 2? I'm all for future-proofing but don't know if the $40 price difference is justifiable for the modest use case I'm considering. Thanks for any insights.
Asked by: Steven
Having owned both versions and testing out for podcasts (for use with two mics), I would say no - they're both extremely similar.

I'm using this interface with a rode podmic, and ...

I'm using this interface with a rode podmic, and when set to a decent volume it picks up a lot of background noise or idk if it's called floor noise, but it's kinda like a condenser mic, picks up little taps from 5 or 6 ft away, why would that be? I've tried it with other dynamic mics I own and different xlr cables and it's the same thing.
Asked by: Christian
I am not sure if it will help you, but for me I improved my sound quality by getting the mic really close to me. This allowed me to reduce the gain, and lose or reduce significantly a lot of the background noises (like keyboard clicks). You may also be able to reduce the clicking if it comes from a consistent area by experimenting with the direction of your mic. You should be able to get the pickup pattern from Rode. A Cloudlifter or FetHead might also help you boost your signal without rIsing your noise floor. Good luck!

I would like to record stereo line level audio from a synthesizer or tape deck to my iMac using GarageBand. Will this product be capable of that function?
Asked by: Scott
Stereo line level: Yes! iMac: Yes! Garage Band: I haven't done it, but surely Garage Band will recognize digital audio via USB like several other apps I've used. You might want to calibrate the pots to give exactly equal L/R gain; like all pots they don't match perfectly, including at their minimum gain setting.
