So I know the front has 2 XLR ports an the back has 2 MIDI. Would I be able to use 2 midi to XLR cables in the back to run 4 XLR microphones for a podcast?
Asked by: Gabriel
The Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 4x4 USB Audio/MIDI Interface (3rd Generation) is capable of accepting a total of two microphone level signals and would not accept a microphone signal through the MIDI I/O connections. To use four microphones with this device, you would need an external mixer or similar preamp to receive and amplify the signals from mics 3 and 4 and then send them to the line inputs on the back of the 4i4.

When taking phone calls for pod-casting, how is the phone audio connected to this module?
Asked by: Mike
You can connect the headphone out of the phone to the input of the interface but that will only allow you to record their side of the conversation. It will not record you nor will they hear your voice.

How is the phone connected to this module when podcasting?
Asked by: Mike
It would be helpful to have more information about your application and how the phone will be used, as well as what type of phone you will be connecting. For example, will you be using a smartphone to live stream or record a podcast or to take phone calls, or play music from a smartphone to accompany the podcast, or will you be using a landline to take phone calls? Please contact us by phone or through live chat on the website and we can help you to determine what will be needed for the application and how to set things up.

This seems really great but I can't figure out what cables I need in order to connect to my computer?
Asked by: audrey
The USB output connector on the 4i4 is USB Type-C (USB 2.0) and there is a USB Type-C to USB Type-A cable included with the interface. If your computer has a USB Type-C port instead of USB Type-A, use an adapter such as the Pearstone USB 3.0 Type-C to USB Type-A Adapter (B&H # PEUSB33CA06) or Apple USB Type-C to USB Type-A Adapter (B&H # APMJ1M2AMA). If you prefer, you can use a USB Type-C cable such as the Pearstone USB 2.0 Type-C Charge & Sync Cable - 3', Black (B&H # PEUSB3CMCM3) instead of the included cable and an adapter.

Can I plug in a regular XLR cable?
Asked by: Kyle
Yes. The two inputs on the Scarlett 4i4 are "combo jacks" that accept standard XLR and 1/4" TRS. Phantom power is only supplied through XLR, so if you have a microphone that requires phantom power be sure to use an XLR cable to connect it.
