Truely outstanding optics

Since I have purchased this lens for my GH6/G9 it hasn't left the body. The optical quality of this lens has blown me away. The detail and micro contrast is so good I didn't know what I was missing. I love the way this lens renders out of focus areas and the sharp focus falloff which gives it a wonderful shallow depth of field effect. The manual focus clutch is awesome, so is the click less aperture ring. Build quality is extremely good and the lens is styled beautifully as a bonus. It may cost more than your camera body, but that price is well worth it. Some say it's the lens and not the camera that makes an image great.

Best in 4/3rds class for this focal range.

Short of anything super far away this is the best lens for Panasonic MFT in my opinion. This has not come off since I got it. If you shoot in Panasonic MFT's you will love this!

Couldn't be happier with this lens. Clear and beautiful.

My second 10-25! Better results than Full Frame.

I have used Canon EF 24-70f4, Sigma 24-70f2.8, Sony 16-35GM, 85GM, and a bunch of other lenses and the majority of M43 lenses. This one is the best in terms of overall usability and image quality. You can really get a Leica look. Contrast is incredible while bokeh is smooth with Leica style bokeh balls. Sun stars are beautiful at F8. The focal range fits me like a glove for doing adventure photography and documentary filmmaking. I shot a documentary almost entirely on this lens and it has been selected in several good film festivals. Why getting a second one? I dropped the lens in a cave one year ago, sent to repair 3 times but still not satisfied with the results. This time with higher budget, I considered switching to Sony A1, Nikon Z9, Canon R5c, Panasonic S5 so I researched their lens offerings. Maybe some Canon RF or Nikon Z lenses which I haven't used might be better, but this lens blew Sigma 24-70f2.8 out of the water. Also, RF and Z lenses are a lot more expensive and I cannot get the 20-50mm range. In addition, this lens meets all the requirements of a cinema lens, and you have an everything-matched 25-50 to form a set. This lens is the reason I switched from M43 to M43. Get it and you will never care about gear reviews anymore.

It wasn't love at first sight.

I rented this lens once and it wasn't love at first sight. I thought the focal range was good but what the big deal was the constant and fast aperture. I shoot many events and with most m43 wide zooms, you start at f/2.8. You can make that work. But you just have to work that much harder to get that shot. Initially, I thought it was 'a very good lens' and I needed it. But it wasn't love at first sight. So I bought it. And I used it. And the less it would come off my camera. I later discovered: it's really a wide angle zoom Nocticron. I started pushing it. The colors and detail you can get out of the lens is fantastic. I could crop in 100% and still keep the image quality intact. It's a super street photography lens despite its size. Amazingly lightweight for how big it is. I can carry it all day. If you shoot events, landscapes and street, it's basically a must have lens. It's expensive for sure. But it's also a lens you can keep for 10 years or more. Easy. The only question is how many megapixels can it resolve for any future m43 sensors. Considering that I can crop in 100% and the image holds, I would think quite a bit. At least 50MP I would think. And I don't see that happen with m43 anytime soon. One of the best lens I've ever owned. She's a keeper.

Game Changing Lens

This lens is a real game changer. The focal length of 10-25mm is perfect for most video work, going from wide angle to normal perspective. At f/1.7 this lens is very fast and the shallow depth of field is great for videos and photos. It is extremely well built and quite large for a micro four thirds lens. It will balance better on a larger body like the G9 or GH6. I love the manual focus clutch with soft stops at each extreme. The aperture ring is a welcome feature and is click-less which is great for video. Optically, it is extremely sharp in the center at all apertures and the corners are pretty sharp as well even wide open (but not tack sharp until you stop down to f2-2.8). This lens and the Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Summilux 25-50mm f/1.7 make a perfect pair and are well matched optically. These lenses are unique to the micro four thirds system and make a compelling case for the system as a whole.

What makes this system GREAT

I stay with the Panasonic G9 and GH6 for lenses like this. Worth every penny. It's replacing my Panasonic Leica primes due to its matching size and performance with the 25-50 and its better performance than the primes. Which is crazy but true. The focus clutch was more useful before the linear focus update for Panasonic Leica lenses, but still great. Heavy, a little large, but stunning. I shot it alongside my older Nikon full-frame kit and immediately put it to rest. It is worthy of being a Leica branded lens, and even competes with my friend's Leica Q at the 28mm 1.7 equivalent. If you shoot south of standard, buy this lens. I actually prefer it to a 24-70 after initially thinking I wouldn't. I had my eyes on it for two years but thought it was over-hyped (it wasn't).

Are there hot spots when using with an IR converted M4/3 camera?
Asked by: Velvet
Unfortunately, we would not have this information available. The manufacturer (and most reviews) are based on the performance of standard, non-converted cameras. You may either have to test the lens yourself on an IR-converted camera, or contact a group or manufacturer of IR-converted cameras to inquire if they have any experience with this lens on an IR-converted camera.
