The Princeton Tec Apex Rechargeable LED Headlamp utilizes a Maxbright primary LED and four Ultrabright secondary LEDs to produce a powerful illumination device that is ideal for a wide variety of jobs and tasks from camping and spelunking to fire and rescue, emergency preparedness, or just working in the dark.

The primary LED has a proprietary collimator lens that directs the light from the LED and optimizes the beam for a long throw that will illuminate the road or trail far ahead of you. The secondary LEDs produce a wide beam that lights a large area close to you for working, cooking, or setting up camp. The spotlight and floodlight each have high and low outputs so you can balance output with battery runtime, depending on your needs. The light is controlled by dual push buttons that have tactile indicators—a single dot for the primary and four dots for the secondary—so you can be sure which light you are controlling by touch.

The housing is made of a lightweight and impact-resistant plastic and is sealed to an IPX7 rating, making it waterproof and submersible. To help reduce neck strain and increase output and runtime, Princeton Tec utilizes a Li-ion battery that is located on the back of the head strap. Moving the battery to the back of the head evenly distributes the weight to make it more comfortable to wear and keeps the light from sliding forward during strenuous activity like rock climbing or running. An extension cable is provided so you can carry the battery on a pack or belt and further reduce the weight that you're carrying on your head. The head strap can be removed and replaced with a short strap that can be used to secure the light to a bike helmet.
