Compact enough to fit into a small carry bag or even your coat pocket; the Syrp Genie Mini II is a portable and easy-to-use device for creating smooth panning motion time-lapses or real-time video. The Genie Mini II expands on its predecessor's features with the addition of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 support, longer video recording battery life, a faster USB Type-C connection, and 360/VR panorama support.

The Genie Mini II is designed to sit between your camera and tripod and has an internal motor that enables 360° panning motion with cameras weighing up to 8.8 pounds. Control and setup is done wirelessly using a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection and Syrp's Genie 2 App for iOS and Android devices. To accommodate experienced and beginning time-lapse shooters, the Genie 2 app provides a useful set of presets, so you can start shooting right away. Advanced users will appreciate the faster Bluetooth 4.2 connection to take advantage of more complex, custom motion control settings and multi-row panoramas to create 360/VR images.

A lithium-ion battery provides approximately 15 hours of time-lapse and six hours of smooth, continuous video panning on a single charge. A USB Type-C cable is included for recharging the battery.

Syrp Genie Mini II Reviews

Nice compact device

This is may second one and it's a very nice device, great piece of engineering. I just wish that the unit be more silent, sometimes it makes some very weird loud sound. It's not 5 stars mainly because the only way to operate it is by the apps that I have on my tablet. It does not seem that the apps had any update or improvement since launch. Some settings are tough to get to work. Oh by the way, if you are looking for the serial number, you need to peel the rubber band (black cover) from it (peel from the bottom-up).

Works great but build quality is hit n miss took two returns

The item works well, has good battery, and good functionality. The app is a little buggy at times but works mostly. I had to guy 4 of them to find two that had a properly fitting rubber skin. Two of them were loose and floppy covering up the LEDs and allowing dust in. Really dissapointed in that. $230 piece of equipment I expect more.

Not charging

Product not working, I tried changing for 8 hours but, it's not charging . Then I put it on the charger and connected it to the app on my iPhone, it contented. As soon as I remove it from the charger it shots down. On the app it shows me that the battery is low and will not go up.

Completely useless

Don't buy this. I saw the warnings from other reviews about how it wouldn't work because of the firmware update issues. I assumed that meant it couldn't interface with the app and do advanced stuff but could still do basic stuff but no.. it won't even spin. I bought this a few months ago in prep for a project that I needed a turntable for and now I have to buy something else (I even bought their turntable platform. Grrr) It's literal garbage. Hundreds of dollars going in the trash having never worked. I hate this thing. Don't buy it. You'd be better off paying them to keep it out of your life.

Amazing for many reasons

Having a motion control system has always been on my list of accessories to have in the bag. Once I saw the video on this one, I knew I found the one I wanted. Couple it with the accessory turntable and you have a mini product photo display studio. Attach it to a tripod and the camera to the Genie, set the controls in the app to have it do what you want, and the rest is easy. Connect the cable to the camera and set the interval and number and degrees of the turn and click the record button in the app and walk away. I use it for both time lapse and product video display. With my Canon 5DsR I already have time lapse capability, so all I do is use the turn function on the Genie. I set it up as a time lapse shot and set the arc of the turn, and the interval of the shots and the number of shots, but don't connect the cable to the camera. In the Canon, I set the time lapse conditions (interval, number of shots and length) and press the record button on the camera and the record button on the Genie app. With the turn table attached, I set a 360 degree turn on the Genie, press record on the camera and start on the turntable and it runs itself. It is smooth and quiet (hint: it gets a little noisier the heavier the load you add to the turn table), but since I'm not recording audio, it doesn't matter. The Genie does provide for a still image turn table set up where you set the number of images from 8 to whatever and the Genie rotates and stops at each degree and the camera fires. You end up with from 8 to whatever number you set of still images, but I really don't know what the use would be. It's a little costly, but well worth the price. Well made and solid. Make sure you order the right connection cable for your camera.

Useful motors for the price.

Bought two of these when on sale, nice and compact size and can be tossed into any kit or bag. Recommend setting up and updating one at a time, which took a while to pair. Motor is fairly loud, fine for timelapse and B-Roll, but not for live shooting.

A small, easy-to-use multi-row panoramas photo solution

Surprisingly simple to create panoramas with, very portable. I have a Gigapan Epic Pro head that works well, but it's not this easy or flexible, and it's nowhere near as portable... it requires its own backpack. The head itself has also always had a little play where it attaches to the tripod. And, there's no mobile app so you can't store settings between uses. You can take this kit down until it easily fits into a camera backpack with the rest of your gear. Note that the gear noise is audible, so while it can be used for video, e.g., time-lapse or hyperspeed, you'd not want to capture audio at the camera. Otherwise a very good solution at a fair price.

Pretty neat device

This is the second unit I purchased in 3 years. In combination with the apps to control the unit (that's the only way), it's very compact and nicely designed. It's pretty good at repeating the same movement with precision (not perfect but very good). Just a couple of issues: 1) it's pretty noisy from time to time and I don't know why. I run it with very little (almost none) load and on occasion it will emit a loud grinding sound as if it's struggling to turn. 2) Curiously these units don't have a serial number. If there is one, let me know when I can find it. 3) It's easy to turn on the unit by mistake. The power button is very sensitive and while handling the unit to put it away you can turn on the unit and find a dead battery the next time. On last comment: the engineering behind it is fantastic (overall).

Is this unit and app compatible with iphone 11 pro Max?
Asked by: Andy
I actually purchased one of these units. When it arrived I connected it to my new iPhone 11 Pro Max. It needed a firmware update. No matter how many hoops I jumped through, it might get to 100% on the firmware, but then would show a error when I tried to use it. I finally tried it on my old iPhone 7 Plus and it updated fine. Then I TrueDepth connecting the Genie II to my Canon 6D Mark II. The unit would rotate as it should, but would not fire the camera. It simply wouldn’t work. I tried to contact their customer support and have yet to hear back from them. I sent the unit back for refund. I would still love to have this unit if it would work, and if the company would stand behind it.

I haven’t tried it upside down but it works fine @ 90 degrees with a d750 and 50mm lens w/o issue. My guess is inverted would not be an issue.
