Anton Bauer Titon Review: Entry-Level Battery with Superior Features

Power your Sony XDCAM HD, XDCAM EX, SX, select Sony HD, and legacy Betacam camera as well as your production gear using this Anton Bauer Titon 90 Battery Kit put together by B&H. The kit includes one 92Wh Titon 90 Gold mount lithium-ion battery, a Tandem-70 camera-mounted charger/power supply, and a Gold mount battery plate for Sony V-mount cameras.

The Titon 90 battery features a 10A continuous draw, an LCD capacity gauge, and both D-Tap and USB accessory ports. The on-camera charger features a single Gold mount charging slot that can also act as a failover AC/DC power supply for the camera. The battery plate for the Sony camcorder attaches to the camera's V-Mount plate and allows you to power the camera using a Gold mount battery.

Anton Bauer Titon 90 Gold Mount Lithium-Ion Battery

Providing a basic power readout and no user interactive surfaces, the Anton Bauer Titon 90 Gold Mount Lithium-Ion Battery can be used to power your Gold mount camera or other pro video gear. The lightweight lithium-ion chemistry can provide up to 10 amps of current on a continuous draw and support peaks of up to 12.5 amps for five seconds. At the side of the chassis, an LCD display screen shows battery capacity in percent remaining, and when put under load it shows the exact remaining runtime. Using the D-Tap and USB ports you can power essential accessories on your rig or other small electronics.

For those who prefer a basic battery without multiple display window options and mode selections. Additional information can be accessed and displayed via select Anton Bauer chargers (not included).

The built-in display shows remaining power as percent. When the battery is connected to a camera or light, or otherwise put under load the display changes to show the remaining runtime. This information is available in most professional camera EVFs.

The Titon Gold mount battery supports a continuous 10A total draw between the Gold mount, D-Tap, and USB ports. It will support a 12.5A draw for up to five seconds to accommodate the high-power draw (power inrush) of devices when they start up. The battery capacity is 92Wh.

The battery uses high-quality cells and robust electronics for power distribution and safety.

It has a working temperature range of -4 to 140°F, although temperatures below 40°F can greatly reduce battery performance.

The case is made from an ABS/polycarbonate blend.

The battery can be charged with Dual or Quad Gold mount LP and Performance chargers.

You can also use other Anton Bauer chargers, as well as common competitive chargers; however, not all features and modes may be accessible with these other charges.

Anton Bauer Tandem-70 On-Camera AC Power/Charger

Anton Bauer's Tandem-70 offers a new approach to portable power. It combines all the functionality of a one position InterActive® charger with the convenience of a noise free camera mounted wide range AC Mains Adapter. The Tandem-70 will power even the most power hungry high definition camera from any worldwide AC source. It also doubles as a full function InterActive Charger charging any Anton Bauer Gold Mount battery in two hours or less. Weighing only one pound (450g) the Tandem-70 is the perfect addition to any field camera as a lightweight mains adapter and/or as a high performance charger. Meets all applicable regulatory requirements including CE and FCC.

Battery Charger

As with all Anton Bauer chargers, charging with the Tandem-70 is fully automatic. Mount any Logic Series battery to the Tandem-70 and it will automatically determine the appropriate charge routine and execute it.

The Tandem-70 incorporates the exclusive InterActive communication between the battery and charger, which allows the charger to identify any Anton Bauer battery attached and determine the precise charge routine for that particular battery under its present condition.

Three Stage Charging

In general, the Tandem-70 utilizes a Three-Stage Charge Routine for each battery.

DC Power Supply

The Tandem-70 will automatically operate as an AC adapter once the camera or other device is switched on. An On/Off switch is not incorporated into the power supply (a green LED will light, indicating that the unit is operating as a power supply).

Automatic Source Selection

If the AC line voltage is removed, and a charged battery is mounted on the Tandem-70, power from the battery will be routed to the camera. When the AC line voltage is restored, the battery is reevaluated for a proper charge routine.

Anton Bauer QR-SDH Wedge Mount Battery Adapter

Anton Bauer's QR-SDH Wedge Mount Battery Adapter mounts quickly on select video cameras with a V-mount wedge, enabling them to accept a Gold mount battery.

Compatible cameras include Sony XDCAM HD, XDCAM EX, SX, and select Sony HD cameras. This adapter can also be used with legacy Digital Betacam and Betacam SX camcorders.
