Ideal for use overhead or to raise the ambient illumination level, the 26" diameter Lantern Softbox from Aputure has the same omni-directional quality of light as the "China Balls" of yore but is built of durable materials and has accessories such as a skirt set to control the 270-degree beam spread. The Lantern has a Bowens mount that fits Aputure lights such as the 120d or 300d series, but it is also compatible with many other lights that use this popular mount.

A Quick Soft Light Solution

The Aputure Lantern can pop open and be ready to use in mere seconds. As filmmakers, you need to move fast, and your lighting shouldn't get in your way. With the Lantern you'll be able to produce soft, even light wherever your shoots may take you.

Even, Omni-directional Light

Light up the entire room. By utilizing a 26" spherical design, the Lantern spreads the light from your LED or studio strobe in all directions with a 270° beam angle. Now you can fill an entire space with soft, even light with just a single light source.

The Art of Control

To create cinematic depth, you need to be able to control your light, so Aputure wanted to take the spherical lantern design one step further. The Lantern ships with a 4-section fully adjustable light control skirt. By using a hook and loop design, the removable skirts can attach in any position, to quickly and precisely control your soft light. You can roll the skirt up or down to flag off unwanted light.

Ready for Run-and-Gun Filmmakers

With its tension-based quick release design, the Lantern can be set up or broken down in just a few seconds, allowing you to set up fewer lights, faster. Combining that with its durable and portable design makes the Lantern the ideal run-and-gun soft light modifier.

Designed for Any Bowens Mount Light

With the ability to fit onto any Bowens mount studio strobe or LED fixture, such as the Aputure 120d or 300d series lights, the Lantern is the ideal photo or video accessory for casting soft light over a wide area, while still maintaining control.

Can I use it as a normal softbox?

Can I use it as a normal softbox?
Asked by: Yonatan
No, the Aputure Lantern Softbox would not function as a typical standard softbox. The Aputure Lantern Softbox is a spherical softbox that is designed to spread the light from your LED or studio strobe in all directions with a 270° beam angle. It would output soft light in nearly all directions. A typical standard softbox is square or rectangular in shape, outputs light in one planar direction, and has straight edges to the light that can be placed across your subject.

I can’t find any information on heat tolerance, has anyone used these with hot bulbs. I’m got a few 300 to 600 watt Bowen’s compatible lamps!
Asked by: Eli
I've used it with my Godox 600 ad flash which is 600 watt and have had no issues. Indoors and outdoors on some pretty long shooting days. It's currently my favorite softbox.
