Canon 6D Mark II Overview

  • 1Description

Comprising the essentials needed to begin shooting, the Canon EOS 6D Mark II DSLR Camera Body with Accessory Kit from B&H bundles the full-frame DSLR with a spare battery, a memory card, and a protective camera bag.

  • Canon EOS 6D Mark II DSLR Camera (Body Only)

Step up into the full-frame game with the EOS 6D Mark II DSLR Camera from Canon. Making high-performance full-frame imaging more accessible, the 6D Mark II makes numerous advancements over its predecessor to improve upon every aspect of image capture and creation. The main update comes in the form of a 26.2MP CMOS sensor and the use of the DIGIC 7 Image Processor to deliver sharper, more vivid imagery in a variety of shooting situations. This setup offers an improved native sensitivity range of ISO 100-40000, which can then be expanded to ISO 50-102400, as well as speedy shooting rates of up to 6.5 fps.

Ensuring your images are tack sharp is a 45-point all-cross type AF system, which is able to track subjects with accuracy. This marks a significant improvement over its predecessor and will result in faster acquisition of your subject. Along with a revamped AF system, the sensor features Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology to provide a boost to focusing in live view and video shooting, which itself has been bumped up to Full HD at 60p. This setup works well with the 3" 1.04m-dot vari-angle touchscreen LCD, which permits use at various angles and with intuitive controls.

For hybrid stills/video shooters, you will enjoy the enhanced video quality as well as the ability to plug in an external mic via a 3.5mm input. Users will also have the ability to create 4K time-lapse movies as well as HDR video with dedicated settings and modes. Additionally, the body design has received an upgrade with improved ergonomics and durability, including dust and water resistance. Users will have access to many connectivity options as well, such as Wi-Fi, NFC, and Bluetooth, for connecting to a smart device, and built-in GPS for geotagging your photos.

26.2MP Full-Frame CMOS Sensor and DIGIC 7 Image Processor
Offering boosts to both resolution and low-light performance, the 6D Mark II uses a newly developed 26.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor that works in tandem with a DIGIC 7 Image Processor to create sharp, vivid imagery and video. This contributes to high performance in low light with native sensitivity range of ISO 100-40000, which can then be expanded to ISO 50-102400, if desired.

Assisting with the capture of properly exposed images is a 7560-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor that helps minimize the impact of flickering lights in your images and ensures accurate reading of the entire scene.
45-Point All-Cross Type AF and Dual Pixel CMOS AF Systems
Ensuring your subject is tack sharp, the 6D Mark II incorporates an all-cross type AF system, which offers 45 phase-detect points, for advanced tracking and focusing while using the optical finder for stills. This AF system can operate in lighting conditions as low as -3 EV and will work with various lenses with maximum aperture of f/8 and smaller, though with a maximum of 27 points. Five different AF area selection modes are available as well, for optimizing performance to your subject matter.

When using Live View and recording video, you can now use Dual Pixel CMOS AF on the actual imaging sensor. This offers wide coverage of phase-detection autofocus for faster and more accurate focusing in these modes. It is ideal for video as users will enjoy smoother rack focusing without the downsides normally encountered with contrast-based systems. Also, this works well with the touchscreen functions, allowing shooters to just tap to adjust focus.
    Full HD Video Recording
For multimedia creation, the 6D Mark II comes equipped with powerful Full HD video recording options. The 6D Mark II offers improved speed with a maximum frame rate of 60p when capturing Full HD video. It also offers Digital IS with 5-axis image stabilization to minimize the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting. This benefits recording while walking or moving, and can also be used in conjunction with lenses featuring optical IS for more effective overall stabilization. Audio is high quality as well, with the ability to use either the built-in microphone or an external microphone via a 3.5mm input.
    Body Design
    • A large 3.0" 1.04m-dot vari-angle LCD monitor is available for bright, vivid image playback and live view shooting, and its touchscreen interface features an anti-smudge design and can be used for intuitive touch-to-focus control and adjusting settings in the menus.
    • A single SD card slot is available for saving photos and video.
    • Optical viewfinder offers approximately 98% coverage of the frame and has a magnification of 0.71x.
    • The durable body design is dust- and weather-sealed to permit working in harsh environments.
    Other Camera Features
    • A built-in GPS module allows you to geotag imagery in-camera as well as auto time sync with the Universal Time Code via satellites. This module is compatible with American GPS, Russian GLONASS, and Japanese quasi-zenith Michibiki satellites for a wide coverage of support.
    • A built-in intervalometer permits the creation of UHD 4K time-lapse imagery and supports recording consecutive frames in pre-selected intervals.
    • Bluetooth permits linking a smartphone or tablet for quick image sharing between devices as well as remote control capabilities.
    • Built-in Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity enable wireless sharing, control, and image transfer with a compatible smart device as well as the CS100 Connect Station.

Canon 6D Mark II Reviews

EOS 6D Mark II DSLR Camera Body with Accessory Kit is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 171.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Definitely recommend! Researched this for a long, long time. Rented one for work and knew it was the right choice, upgrade/add to my Rebel T3i. Image quality is great, camera performs like a champ. For me, the articulating screen was a big deal, have grown accustomed and dependent on that with the T3i. With this 6DM2, the touch screen and its focus and shutter functions are just fantastic. Have read lots of negative and picky reviews on autofocus and 4K - not even a factor.  Got this on a great special at B&H so price was unbeatable, along with extras. If you are researching (and agonizing, as I did) for your personal hobby or semi-pro needs, I would definitely recommend this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lower cost full frame This camera was received in excellent condition. The camera is light weight and creates great images for a full frame. The zoom control is a little different than my 7D2 but still works great for play backs. It is very easy to use and has all the newest features you find in a modern camera. The Canon 1.4x extender WILL autofocus but the 2x does not. The removable back display is handy when it is hard to view through the view finder. The weight of the camera is a big plus because when you have a heavy lens makes it easy to carry. At 26MP and half the cost of a 5D4, this is a awesome full frame camera. The photo is with my Canon 11-24mm F/4

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far! I debated making this purchase as an upgrade to my 70D. I had waited and waited because I had read sometime last year that the 6D Mark II was being released, but was fairly disappointed that it was released without dual memory card slots and some of the newer technology that's available. However, my reason for upgrading was low light capability, and after considering my options I decided to go ahead and make the purchase. I am so glad I did. I literally sat in my bedroom at 6:30 in the evening with the lights off and was able to take photos and didn't even have this ISO maxed out. I am very pleased with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wrongly accused! This camera received a lot of negative reviews when it came out. Some even called it the worst DSLR of 2017. I disagree. I will admit that the exclusion of 4K at this point in the game is a gross miscalculation on Canon's part. I do wish it had dual card slots. That being said it is a great camera for the money. I chose it specifically as I wanted to upgrade from the 77D and this camera made that transition nearly seamless. It is lightweight yet feels solid and fits my hand nicely. With the battery grip it can shoot longer than you will. If you have the money for a higher end camera go for it, but if you are shooting aps-c and want to move up to full frame this is a good place to start your journey!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Review Update I recently wrote a review on the 6DmkII and I think I sounded a tad more negative than I should have been. Frankly, aside from the somewhat substandard DR this is a very good camera (CaptureOne11 mitigates the DR issue to a high degree).? Stated another way. The IQ of the 6DmkII is better than any cropped sensor Canon camera out there at ISO's above 1600. It destroys my 7DmkII above 1600 ISO. The color and detail is also outstanding. Given that I've bumping up my rating to 4 stars. If you don't want to put down the cash on a 5dmkIV and you're geared up with Canon equipment like me this is likely you're camera. The junco (bird) pic I've uploaded was taken with the 6DmkII + EOS 400 F5.6/L (f6.3) @ 4000ISO and processed using CaptureOne11.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great entry level full frame camera This is great for anyone wanting a full frame camera that is turned off by the price of the more expensive bodies. I bought this to step up from my 70D, and couldn't be happier! Great image quality and packed with useful features. My favorite would have to be the time lapse setting. The only down side is the lack of 4k video, but I didn't buy this camera to take video and it does amazing with still photography. I use it for concert photography and the native ISO of 40,000 does wonders in low light situations. The auto focus is fast and pretty accurate, and I love that there is two different zone select auto focus options which I use quite often shooting concerts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great upgrade for me! I dont know about all the hate for this camera that Ive read online, but I for one am glad that I picked it up. I upgraded from the original 7D so it was a nice upgrade for me.  The full frame sensor is terrific and I love the images Im getting!  I think the dynamic range is just fine and the colors only appear to be a bit less saturated at ISO 100 or 200.  The middle ISO range seems terrific. I wish the AF points were more spread out in the frame, but you learn to work around that in no time flat.   The camera feels great in the hand, and I picked it up with battery grip.  Im really enjoying the camera!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Camera for all phases of Photography I do Professional Nature Photography but was very hesitant to purchase this camera based on some reviews. I recently purchased the 6d 2 from B&H and it is excellent. I have a 80d, 6d and had a 5d Mark 3. The color and metering are just excellent. I love the touch screen and the Duel Pixel Auto Focus. I have had no problem with the focusing system. I feel this is an up grade to both the 6d and 80d and on par with the 5d Mark 3. The image quality is excellent, the dynamic range could be better but still gets the job done. The camera is great for vlogging and live view is sensational. I do not use shutter speeds over 4,000 or have a need for 4k video. The duel card slots are nice but not a deal breaker. In summary the camera is light has great battery life and is easy to use.

Will the Vello BG-C8 work with the new Canon EOS 6D Mark II?

question

Updating my 7D - Im basically a landscape person - and wanted to get into full frame - many people are telling me the 5Dmkiv is the way to go - but Im finding sticker shock - like I said Im upgrading my 7D - I have 2 really good ef lenses - 70-200 f4 and 24-105 - I have the crop canon 10-22 that I use mostly for landscape- so if I went full frame Id need to upgrade that lens - now that looking like a $4300 upgrade verse a 2800 upgrade if I get the 6Dmkii - I dont do video - so is the 6Dmkii a good option ? Im looking for a camera to last me at least 6 yrs- thanks
Asked by: John F.
Actually, if price were no object and you wish to wring every pixel in creating your landscapes, you would be considering the Canon EOS 5DS DSLR Camera (Body Only) B&H # CAE5DS. With a 50.6MP Full-Frame CMOS Sensor and with your excellent Canon L lenses, that would the better combination I think for landscapes. However, that does not answer your issue. For that, I would suggest considering either the 6D Mark II or the original 6D. Both of these have excellent full frame sensor that look just about as good as the 5D line. Basically, what the 5D has over the 6D is pro level ruggedness, weatherproofing and features that mean more for those using them for money on a daily basis. I have two 6D's and do a lot of shooting outside. I have nothing but praise for the image quality and I am fine with the build quality. They do whatever I need to do.

What is the procedure to connect the camera to the phone via Wi-Fi to use the phone as a monitor?
Asked by: Yurij
I've got my paired up to my iPhone 7 plus, but don't use it as a monitor since I use mainly live view on the camera. The advantages of pairing the camera to the phone is being able to turn the GPS on so you know exactly where each image was shot at.

I have a question... how come is it that Canon just announced the release of this camera and is not even in stock?? Why don't they announce their devices when they can actually fulfill orders?

With just about any camera manufacturers, cameras are announced and information is made available well before they are available to ship.

Can me purchase case on delivery this camera
Asked by: Anonymous
I do not quite understand the question the way it is phrased above. The Ruggard Journey 34 DSLR Shoulder Bag (Black), B&H # RUPSB134B, included with the purchase of the Canon EOS 6D Mark II DSLR Camera Body Basic Kit, B&H # CAE6D2BK, would be shipped at the same time as the other items in the kit, and if all items are in stock at the time of purchase, all of the items would be delivered simultaneously (including the camera case). If that was not the question you had, I would recommend e-mailing us at askbh@bhphoto.com and re-phrase your inquiry, and we will attempt to assist you with your question.

question

I ruled out an April fools joke since its July. Is there another major practical joke holiday I am not aware of? Or is this camera real?
Asked by: Brylan R.
There are plenty of good reviews on the Canon 6D mark II within this listing. Yes, a few no so happy reviews. To sum up, this camera has far better ISO capabilities in low light than apsc cameras like Canon 80D and half the price of 5D4. So adding full frame glass will get you results closely in line with quality images on a 5D3 in my opinion. The extra features over the original 6D make this a good choice for video in full frame in low light and adds a fully articulating screen. Ideal for those wanting to stay with Canon's full frame lens lineup in great glass which is equally important. This camera is a good tool for photographers who know how to get the best images out of it. Recommended.
