Jensen Transformers MEDIA-1 Overview

The Media-1 Single Channel Direct Box from Jensen Transformers is designed to drive an unbalanced instrument signal to distances up to 300' or more without high-frequency loss or introducing noise into the signal path. It can be used to convert unbalanced instrument and line-level signals to a balanced mic level.

This direct box is built with a rugged aluminum enclosure and steel slide-in inner tray with recessed zones at each end to protect switches and connectors. On one end it features a variable trim control to set input levels, two 1/4" instrument inputs, two RCA inputs for a CD player and wired in parallel to act as thru-puts, and a 3.5mm TRS input for a computer, MP3 player, or smartphone. On the other end it features an XLR output with ground lift. There is also a 180° polarity switch. Inside, a high-performance Jensen JT-DB-EPC transformer provides isolation as it passively lowers the impedance and performs the balancing for the channel.

Additionally, with over +22 dB of signal handling capacity, the Media-1 direct box gracefully handles extreme signals such as those produced by high-output digital sources while providing instant access to level adjustments during hectic shows. These features combine to make the Media-1 Single-Channel Direct Box the ideal choice for multimedia technicians and presenters.

1/4" Inputs
Left and right inputs ideally suited for stereo keyboards or drum machines, wired in parallel with the RCA and 3.5mm connectors.
RCA Inputs
Left and right inputs provide an easy connection from a CD player or other -10 dBV consumer audio device.
3.5mm TRS Input
Standard mini TRS stereo input for connecting a laptop, tablet, or iPhone to the Media-1.
Trim
Used to set the input level going into the Media-1. Eliminates the need for a typical PAD switch.
XLR Output
Balanced low-Z mic-level output. Sums left and right to mono. Wired to AES standard pin-1 ground, pin-2 hot (+) and pin-3 cold (-).
Ground Lift
Lifts pin-1 on the XLR output to help eliminate hum and buzz caused by ground loops.
Durable Case
Aluminum frame construction with steel inner tray prevents circuit board from being torqued which could lead to part failure.
