Super-Telephoto Versatility

Spanning a versatile telephoto range, the FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS from Sony is a flexible zoom perfectly suited for nature, wildlife, and sports applications. Its long reach pairs with a modest maximum aperture range to render to a relatively lightweight and portable design and, as a G series lens, optical quality, focus speed, and attention to handling details are also priorities of this well-rounded super-tele zoom.

Long-Reaching, Stabilized Zoom

  • Designed for full-frame E-mount cameras, this super-telephoto can also be used on APS-C models to achieve an equivalent 300-900mm focal length range.
  • Maximum aperture range of f/5.6-6.3 helps minimize size and weight while providing excellent performance in a variety of applications.
  • Optical SteadyShot image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake for sharper imagery when shooting handheld with slower shutter speeds.
  • OSS has three dedicated modes, including panning and viewfinder stabilization priority settings, and can also be combined with select camera's sensor-shift type image stabilization for more effective control of camera blur.
  • Internal zoom design limits the overall length of the lens while zooming for more intuitive and comfortable handling.
  • Compatible with optional 1.4x and 2x FE teleconverters for further increasing the lens's reach.

G Lens Series

  • Five extra-low dispersion elements are featured in the lens design and help to control chromatic aberrations and reduce color fringing for increased clarity and color fidelity.
  • One aspherical element is placed at the rear of the optical design and reduces distortion and spherical aberrations in order to produce a high degree of sharpness and accurate rendering.
  • A Nano AR Coating has been applied to minimize surface reflections, flare, and ghosting for increased contrast and color rendering in strong lighting conditions.
  • A rounded 11-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.

Fast and Precise Autofocus

  • Direct Drive Super Sonic wave Motor (DDSSM) AF system provides quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance that suits both stills and video applications.
  • Linear Response manual focus control offers more natural handling and an AF/MF switch is located on the lens barrel for tactile control over this setting.
  • Three customizable focus hold buttons are present on the lens barrel for intuitive tactile control and rapid access to select settings.
  • Minimum focusing distance of 7.9', along with a maximum magnification of 0.2x, benefits portraiture and head shots.
  • Focus range limiter and focus hold controls offer more intuitive handling and faster performance when photographing moving subjects.

Professional, Durable Design

  • Dust and weather-sealed construction benefits using the lens in inclement shooting conditions.
  • The front lens element features a fluorine coating to protect against smudges and dust from adhering to the glass surface.
  • Removable rotating tripod mount permits quick switching from horizontal to vertical shooting orientations.

2022 Muscle Beach Memorial Day flyby. This is a still of the C-130J Hercules Flyby. The plane was in focus coming and and all the way out. It did shift to some palm tress when the plane crossed. This lens is fabulous. Will be taking to shoot fighters soon. LOVE IT. If you are on the fence. Do it. You will be very happy with the performance of this Sony lens.

Amazing clarity and reach

I wanted a lens I could carry in the field while using binoculars. This is the absolute limit of what I am willing to carry in terms of weight and size. Even if I were willing to shell out for an f4 or larger, I would not want to carry it in the field. I carry this lens on a sling attached to the foot and can swing it up quickly to get off shots while birding. At 600mm you wont typically fill the frame shooting birds, but it is pretty incredible what you can capture on a modern sensor and using AI in post. I have gotten really good results with tight cropping and post-processing.

Great wildlife and bird lens.

I bought this lens with some doubt on its sharpness. However I'm very pleased with the results, its sharp at 600mm wide open and gets even better if stopped down at least 1 stop. I love the smoothness of the zoom and quick 200-600 zoom with a very short rotation of the barrel of about 1/4 turn. The focus works really well with my a1, locking on and staying locked on even when I'm using eye focus on birds. This lens is amazing considering the price.

So glad I bought this lens.

I really agonized over this purchase. However, after reading various reviews I agree that it is a lightweight high quality lens. The AF is responsive and accurate under most conditions and the stabilization is fantastic.

Just finished my first shoot, photographing birds and really like this lens. The weight is very good for handheld use and the sharpness is as good as my 100-400 G master

I am a first time DSLR camera user but my experience with this lens was awesome! Was able to capture some amazing photos and once I learn more tricks of how to fully use its potential I am confident I will be even more pleased. It was nice that it came with the UV filter at basically no extra charge!

Good for Nikon Z users, too

I am a longtime Nikon user, and I had been looking forward to the release of Nikon's own 200-600mm zoom for the Z mount. This apparently won't happen for a while, however, so I was glad to discover that Z camera owners can utilize Sony E lenses through the use of a Megadap MTZ 11 adapter (new version). I decided to try this, and the experiment has been quite a success. The Sony lens is sharp throughout its zoom range, and its internal zooming and focusing renders it easy to handle and well-balanced. If there is any diminution of performance in terms of tracking and focusing I can't discern this. The Sony zoom is a fantastic lens, even on my Z7 and Z9 cameras.
