AVPro Edge AC-EX40 Overview

Using proprietary Invisible Compression Technology (ICT), AVPro Edge has designed the 18 Gb/s Ultra Slim 4K60 4:4:4 HDMI/HDR over HDBaseT Extender to deliver virtually lossless high-bandwidth 4K HDR signals. Deep Color and HDR metadata remain intact during transmission, allowing the signal to be sent free of artifacts such as banding. A 4K signal is transmitted up to 131' and 1080p up to 230' over a single Cat 6a cable.

The system supports KVM integration via a USB Type-B and two Type-A connectors on both the transmitter and receiver. Besides keyboard and mice, these ports also support other USB peripherals, including whiteboards, game controllers, PTZ cameras and controllers, mobile devices (USB-OTG), headsets, printers, flash drives, and more, for transmission over Cat 6a.

A scaling circuit built into the transmitter enables downscaling of 4K/HDR signals to 1080p, allowing you to include HD displays in your workflow. Other features include TOSLINK audio input and extraction, ARC, EDID management, bidirectional IR and RS-232, and built-in 4K/HD test patterns. The extender can also be cascaded to achieve much longer cable runs. Thanks to built-in HDMI signal equalization and amplification, you can daisy-chain additional extenders, and thanks to PoH power support, there is no need for a power source where the transmitter and receiver meet in the chain. You can power the first transmitter and second receiver, and power will be provided to the middle remotely.

Invisible Compression Technology

A revolution in HDMI signal extension, the proprietary AVPro Edge ICT technology can compress high-bandwidth HDMI signals into a more manageable size for delivery over a Cat link. The ICT algorithm can manage HDR signals including 4:4:4, 4:2:2, and 4:2:0 as well as signals up to 18 Gb/s and UHD 4K60 4:4:4. The architecture of ICT allows it to be compatible with all chroma subsampling types, color spaces, and up to 12-bit HDMI Deep Color. ICT is even invisible to HDMI test gear and other sink devices. What makes ICT special is that it preserves HDR metadata, color information, and depth in full, original integrity, as opposed to sacrificing these to save space with the result of visible banding, color shifting, and motion artifacts in the image.

Audio Return Channel (ARC)

The Audio Return Channel in HDMI 1.4 and 2.0 enables a display (via a single HDMI cable or TOSLINK) to send audio data "upstream" to an A/V receiver or surround audio controller.

High-Quality HDMI Audio

Supported audio formats include uncompressed PCM 2-channel, LPCM 5.1 and 7.1, Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD-Master Audio, and Dolby Atmos.

Onboard Troubleshooting

The extender allows you to generate a 1080p or 4K test pattern to identify external problems (source, repeater, displays, etc.) You can be sure that your wiring is correct and get to the bottom of problems quickly should they arise, without having to worrying if the source or sink is working properly. A test pattern can be generated from the transmitter or receiver so you can verify total system infrastructure integrity.

IR & RS-232 Management

Bidirectional IR and RS-232 can control the sources from the sink or vice versa. In addition, you can use the I-Pass port to plug your control system emitter ports directly to the transmitter (via an optional mono 3.5mm cable) for clean and reliable IR pass-through. The extender's Voltage Protection Circuit (VPC) allows you to do this without wear and tear on the electronics inside.
