Olympus MC-20 2x Teleconverter Overview

Designed to be attached between a compatible lens and a Micro Four Thirds mount camera, the Olympus MC-20 M.Zuiko Digital 2x Teleconverter doubles the magnification of select Olympus lenses, dramatically boosting the apparent focal length of those lenses with a minimal increase to the size or weight of the camera and lens combination.

Electronic communication between an attached camera and lens is supported, maintaining autofocus and image stabilization, including Olympus FAST AF as well as 5-Axis Image Stabilization features whenever possible. Inside this teleconverter, nine optical elements including one HR lens, in four groups with Olympus's ZERO coating help to ensure clarity and color fidelity while reducing ghosting and flare.

Sealed against dust, moisture, and the effects of freezing temperatures, this teleconverter is constructed for dependable weather resistance. When used with the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 300mm f/4 IS PRO Lens, this teleconverter also enables tele-macro photography with up to 0.96x magnification as well as up to +5 EV stops of image stabilization with the Olympus OM-D E-M1X Mirrorless Digital Camera.

Pairs well with the Olympus 40-150mm 2.8 pro lens

Used it recently with the Olympus 40-150 2.8 pro. It worked like a charm. It gave me the reach I needed with seemly no loss of image quality.

Sold all my Canon stuff for olympus M5 mark3. Started building another setup. Bought the 2x converter for the 40x150 pro lens. One of the best things I ever bought. B&H has the stuff you need. Shipping fast. Today I ordered a new camera case. It has already shipped. Can't beet that.

It works great with my 50 - 150 f2.8 lens. I did have to update my camera and lens for it to work. Fortunately, I found out on my first shoot when it did not work and the shoot was not important. Always test new gear is my newest motto....

Consider it part of the Olympus 100-400 zoom

My lens's resolution with this extender on is the same as without it ; It is superb when used with my Zuiko 100-400 zoom and tremendously increases its capability; They are perfectly coupled.

I have used the MC-20 with the Olympus 40-150 F/2.8 and the images were perfect with the same quality as without using the MC-20. Autofocus was very fast even in low light. I also used it with the Olympus 100-400 F/5-6.3 to my huge surprise the AF worked incredibly well and got very good results when I photographed in good lighting conditions. I would highly recommend the MC-20 for bringing your subject closer including in close focus.

Added reach is a big plus

I gave four stars because I haven't had a chance for a good field test as yet. Otherwise, it looks good. Obviously you have to accept the fact that f/8 is now wide open, which means that you have to work with the light and will very likely be dealing with higher ISO's. Given all that, preliminary tests on backyard birds are promising. Focus is still fast and image quality can be very good if you pay careful attention to your shooting technique and watch your exposure details.

Beautiful product.

This teleconverter is the best thing for the 40-150 2.8 pro Lens you can buy. Great sharp pictures. It's small and compact. Takes up very little room in my bag. Very happy with this MC-2O

Is there any AF or AE or OIS functionality with this converter using a Panasonic lens? Am I correct to assume, at least, that the converter will attach to any MFT lens and camera allowing manual focus and functionality?
Asked by: William
This teleconverter will generally not work with Panasonic lenses, and it only works with a few select Olympus lenses, including the 40-150 pro, 300mm pro, and the new Olympus 100-400 lens. The front element of the teleconverter sticks out, which prevents its use with most lenses. I have the Panasonic Leica 100-400 lens, and the teleconverter will not work with it. If you have a Panasonic lens with a recessed rear element, it might work. I do not know of such a lens, but others might.
