Tiffen Black Satin Overview

The Tiffen 77mm Black Satin 1/2 Filter helps to reduce the overall contrast of an image and better control the highlights within a scene. In addition to rendering highlights with a grittier, more grainy appearance, this screw-in filter also helps to subtly soften facial blemishes and wrinkles for a natural, refined look.

This filter is constructed from water white glass and is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and mounting on precision metal rings.

At 24mm you should not experience any vignetting, even with a full frame sensor.

Does it have male/female screw threads? Whats the size of the threads? Whats the size of the barrel? Can a 114mm Clamp on matte box fit on this?

According to Tiffen, they state that the 4.5” filters are not threaded and has no internal/external threads, as they are a drop-in style filter made for adapters. As such, the listed 4.5" size reflects the total size of the filter (the outer diameter) which would fit into a 4.5” holder.

Yes, this will have a 67mm front filter thread. Keep in mind that you may experience vignetting when stacking filters when shooting at wide focal lengths.

The higher the number, the greater the diffusion effect. A 2 is twice as powerful as a 1, a 3 is twice as powerful as a 2, etc.
