Bought these for my Girlfriend as a retirement/Birthday present. They are a big upgrade from her other birder binoculars. She couldn't believe how much clearer looking through them it was.

Fabulous optics... the included case, not so much

The optics experience with the Vortex UHD easily earns 5 stars. The sharpness, brightness, and 3D effect are simply stunningly good. The kit I ordered included a chest strap and case system. That seemed like icing on the cake since I wanted to have a chest carrier. However in reality it is a huge disappointment. It is well made, (in China, not Japan), and while the manufacturing quality is very good, the design is not. The upper strap attachment points on the case are too low relative to the binocular CG and as a result the top of the case with the binoculars stowed falls away from the chest at an angle. The lower strap attachment points are also too low and are therefor unable to mitigate the effect of the upper strap tilt. This is a very annoying and, in my opinion, a fatal design flaw. The other design error are the sliders on the upper chest straps to which the binoculars attach. They simply slide down the chest straps due to the weight of the binoculars. I removed the velcro ends of the upper chest straps by cutting the stitching with a razor so I could re route the strap through the slider so it will properly lock into the position desired. Really stupid to have to disassemble a product to correct a factory error. This fix does not overcome the problem of the case not staying close to the body as described above so this case system is essentially useless. It probably only cost Vortex $30 to get these made and include it as a nice low cost, (to them), bonus to us buyers, but it does not have the intended effect. It will function, but it is a poor design. 1 star. If you can get the Vortex UHD without the chest case system do that and buy a third party system that works. Kuiu makes a good one and I am sure there are others.

They excite me when I plan to birdwatch

I couldn't be happier with them. They are crisp and clear. I am seeing details that make me excited to get out and observe wildlife. They sit by my bedroom window and since I am working from home, I will take a break and peer through them to see any if there are any new feathered visitors visiting the feeders. I will do this literally dozens of times through the course of the day. They add to my appreciation of our natural world.

Really Gives The Euros A Run

We had the money, my wife was on-board, I was ready to pull the trigger on the Swarovski EL's. While trying the Swarovski's out at Cablea's, the salesman handed me a pair of the Razor UHD's. It was really an eyeopener, how good these binoculars are. Wider field of view, just as sharp, maybe a touch brighter. But I still convinced myself that the Swarovski's color rendition was better, richer, warmer. Weeks went by, and I just had to take another look. Maybe my eyes just aren't as discerning, but I thought the Vortex edged the EL's slightly in brightness, and field of view and equaled them in sharpness. The Swarovski color IS richer, but I don't feel its as accurate. It could just be tatse, but now I like the UHD's better. They are bigger, and a bit heavier, but for me it helps steady them. The Vortex warranty stands alone. I am very happy with these binoculars and have no regrets. my wife and I enjoy them for birding. I really notice a difference from our former standard, the Nikon HG DCF. Highly recommended.

Superb views

My goals in buying the Vortex 10x42 UHD binoculars were sharpness and brightness across the field, superior close focus, and a lack of color-fringing and other optical artifacts, and that's what I got. That they feel excellent in use, very solid and well balanced, is an added plus. The diopter adjustment is precise and locks in place. The focus wheel is nicely damped and the rubber protecting the metal body is solidly attached and seems to have just the right amount give. But the view they provide is the big deal here; crisp, full, and uniform. The difference between these and my pair of well-reviewed $420 (with discount) binoculars is immediately obvious. The day I got them my wife and I spotted a largish bird in a treetop maybe 300 yards away. She grabbed the older binoculars, I grabbed the UHDs. She could tell it was a hawk or falcon while I soon determined that it was a peregrine falcon. As luck would have it, the Perseid meteor shower arrived a few days later. Good luck seeing a meteor in binoculars, but we brought both pairs along to look at the usual suspects in the night sky as we watched for meteors. I have never seen the moons of Jupiter so clearly with optics that I personally own, much better than the cheaper pair could manage. The disc described by their orbits was obvious and I found a diffuse object nearby that I'm guessing is a nebula (need to look that one up). The icing on the cake was the meteor that actually streaked in front of Jupiter as I was looking! A superior close focus spec was an another reason I bought these binoculars. The number given by Vortex, just over 4 feet, is correct, and I've been very impressed looking at butterflies at close range the past few weeks. The UHDs are physically a bit longer than competing models, something that doesn't concern me much as it may account for the ease in holding them steadily. Perhaps that is the trade-off for the close focus, I don't know. Vortex may have been able to buy a 3/8 or so reduction in length by shortening the tube and having the objective lens sit closer to the end, but I'd rather keep the length and the lens-shading and physical protection it provides. I am very happy with the purchase.

Great value on sharp binoculars

Excellent value on a pair of sharp binoculars - don't notice much difference from Swarovski binos and much lighter. They handle quite well too. Very happy with the purchase.

Use for birding. Can't get over how clear and sharp images are at distance. Details pop at close range with incredible color rendition. Have used in heavy overcast and images are still bright. Very pleased.
