GVM 50RS-RGB Overview

GVM has put together this 50RS RGB LED Panel 3-Light Kit to give image makers on location the benefit of a system with wide color and light quality control, as well as power options. The kit includes three 50RS RGB LED panels, each with 4-way barndoors, an A-frame diffuser, an AC adapter and cable, a light stand, and a carry case.

The 13.4 x 12.7" LED panel has a wide color range from a warm 3200K to daylight 5600K to meet any ambient light challenge, match other fixtures, or just for creative expression. The light has high CRI/TLCI ratings of 95/95 to ensure color accuracy. The RGB mode (Red, Green, Blue) with 0 to 100% saturation control offers access to literally millions of color combinations for fine-tuning and customizing the output. You can make adjustments on the fixture but you can also make them wirelessly via WiFi using the free app for iOS or Android. The panel has a wide 120° beam spread that can be narrowed using the four-way barndoors. Simply swing one or more of the barndoor leaves into the path of the beam to keep light from areas you don't want illuminated. The panel is dimmable from 0 to 100%. Featuring aluminum construction, the fixture has a yoke that allows 360° rotation for unlimited positioning options.

The 50RS runs on 110-220 VAC voltage using the included AC adapter, but it will also run on optional NP-F-type batteries when mains power is unavailable. The light comes with a soft filter and an A-frame diffuser to soften the output.

Like others have said about these, the stands are honestly trash. I wouldn't trust them to keep the lights from falling over in a production setting. But the lights themselves seem to be made really well! They seem pretty functional overall and give pretty good light. I haven't played around with the phone app yet, but you can do pretty much everything with the buttons/knobs on the back, so I'll only install it if I need to (it seems EVERYTHING has its own app these days, so I try NOT to install any more if I don't NEED to!) Overall, I'm glad I bought these! Was considering getting Nano tubes, but saw these were on sale. I'm glad I got em!

LED lights are very good value for money as a beginner videographer. I'll need to find a solution to get the light even softer than the extra panel allows for. One of the displays wasn't working out of the box from the 3-light kit, and after a quick email to GVM I had a replacement shipped out within a day. Excellent customer service.

Will these lights run off an external V-mount battery (with the proper D-tap to barrel cable of course)?

Thanks for the reply. The power requirement spec states 15V DC, so I was hoping a 14.8V V-mount battery could power this. BTW, I'm not expecting a V-mount battery to attach directly to the light.

No idea, I'm an iPhone user. But let me tell you this, regardless if it works on Android or not, the app is useless. You have to disconnect from your local wifi network and connect to the wifi network of the light. For the life of me I was not able to find the password for wifi of the light. Does not come in the manual. Can not be found online, customer support don't care. So you can't connect to your light. And even if you did, you can only connect to one light. Yes you can set one light as master and the other two as slaves and change the settings on the master and the slaves will automatically set to the same settings, but who does that? You normally need different settings on your key and fills. By that time you just walk up to the lights and change the settings. I use the lights for lighting the background set and they are OK for that price. I would likely recommend them for lighting the background but I would not use them as my main lights.
