Canon RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3 IS USM Overview

Covering an impressive wide-angle to super-telephoto range, the RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3 IS USM from Canon is a true all-in-one lens for nearly any shooting situation. Its 10x zoom range is complemented by an Optical Image Stabilizer, which compensates for up to five stops of camera shake to better realize sharp imagery when shooting handheld. Benefitting both stills and video is a Nano USM autofocus motor, which delivers quick, quiet, and precise focusing performance. Additionally, the lens also features a unique customizable Control Ring, which can be configured to adjust a variety of exposure settings, including aperture, ISO, and exposure compensation.

All-in-one zoom is designed for use with full-frame Canon RF-mount mirrorless cameras.
An Optical Image Stabilizer helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by five stops to better enable working in low-light conditions and with slower shutter speeds. Also, when recording video, Dynamic IS is available and is a more active type of stabilization to suit recording while walking or moving, and is especially useful at the wide-angle end of the zoom range.
Nano USM system utilizes both a ring type USM and an STM mechanism to realize quick and accurate focusing that is also smooth and near-silent to suit both photography and video applications. This focusing system also affords full-time manual focus control when working in the one-shot AF mode.
Configurable Control Ring can be used to adjust a variety of exposure settings, including aperture, ISO, and exposure compensation.

Is Canon RF 24-240mm F/4-6.3 IS USM lens ...

Is Canon RF 24-240mm F/4-6.3 IS USM lens compatible with EW-78E lens hood (72 mm mount, made for Canon EF-S 15-85 mm F3.5-5.6 IS USM lens)?
Asked by: Sourav
I also tried fitting the EW-7E as did Jeremy and found that the bayonet tab spacing is different on the 24-240 so the hood doesn't fit. I also tried the EW-78D (from a EF 28-200 Lens) which is a "tulip" pattern shade that externally looks very much like the E-78F and again, the hood bayonet pattern does not quite match the 24-240 so it won't fit properly either. The E-78F does work well on the 24-240 as a "wide-angle" hood and has the new lock button so is very secure once installed. The RF 24-240 is a great "everyday" lens and is one of the best bargains of the RF line.

Macro capability? What's the minimum focus distance?
Asked by: Jacob
This lens has a maximum magnification factor of 0.26. That means that an object photographed at the closest distance (20 inches) at 240 mm FL will be slightly larger than life size when the full frame is printed as a 4X6 print. On an 11X14 print it will be 2.86 X larger than life size.
