I think that for the price, this is an exceptional value. It is much less expensive, lighter and smaller than the 1.4 and 1.2 35s out there, and 90+% of their image quality. I shoot this on a Sony A7C, which I picked also for light weight and small size. A superb combination for general shooting, especially street photography. (hint: put your A7C into silent mode).

This lens is small and sharp! It is great for almost everything at 35mm. It does struggle with some abbreviations, but so have seen worse.

Sits on my a7lll. Very fast and accurate focus, very lightweight, feels just right as a travel lens.
Preferred all-around lens for video

This was my first lens purchased for the Sony Fx3. 35mm is a sweet spot focal length for videos. I chose this over the G Master after days of watching reviews online. The main deciding factor was focus breathing. There is a clear consensus online that the f/1.8 has less focus breathing than the 1.4. I would also be paying a lot more for less than 1 stop in the 1.4. So I made my choice and filmed my first short film. Very happy. Although at 1.8, the lens still shows focus breathing so it's not 100% perfect. It's subtle and probably only noticeable to any of us who are perfectionists.
The internals also shift in weight when you tilt up or down, but not an issue even on a balanced gimbal. Also, the lens strap that comes with the many gimbals for smoother operation will end up on the broad focus ring of this lens, just an fyi if you plan to use motor operated (manual) focus on a gimbal like the SC2.

The Sony A7 IV gimbal master.

If you use a gimbal and need deadly accurate autofocus from a lens look no further. Typically I would use a 50mm on a gimbal to get dreaming wedding shots but as the sony IV shoots 60 fps in crop mode (35mm closer to 50mm 2.0 with apsc crop mode) this works perfectly. It is lightweight and incredibly small, and the focus is fast and dependable. So the sony a7 iv has a feature where you can tap the screen to put the focus in track mode. This feature is amazing when you have multiple subjects in the frame, and eye focus is having issues. Also, as a note of reference, I shoot Pany S1's with 35 1.4 and 85. 1.4 and just switched from a pany s5 and pany 35mm to the sony as a fly cam. The autofocus was not terrible on the s5, and for portrait sessions, it was fine as I do multiple takes, but when the bride walking down the isle, I was tired fo the pany hunting or focusing on some random person on the side...THIS LENSE JUST WORKS AND WORKS WELL... No need to pay for the 35 1.4 which is a lot heavier and tougher to balance and fly all day!
