Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art Overview

By B&H Photo's

Created for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, the Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art Lens provides a versatile range of wide-angle focal lengths with excellent image quality while optimizing size and weight.

An Art-series zoom, this lens is also distinguished by its fast f/2.8 constant maximum aperture to suit working in available lighting conditions. Featuring a sophisticated optical design, a series of low dispersion and aspherical elements is used to minimize both chromatic and spherical aberrations throughout the zoom range in order to achieve high sharpness, clarity, and color accuracy. A Super Multi-Layer Coating combined with a Nano Porous Coating also helps to suppress lens flare and ghosting to a greater degree than conventional anti-reflective coatings. This helps to more effectively produce color-accuracy and contrast-rich imagery in a variety of lighting conditions.

Though full-time manual focus is available, this lens is equipped with a stepping motor that enables smooth, high-speed autofocusing that is notably quiet whether utilizing features such as Face/Eye Detection AF or during video shooting. A built-in Autofocus-Lock (AFL) button can be assigned additional functions to widen the range of operations available on the lens, while inside, a rounded 11-blade diaphragm improves image quality by helping to create smooth bokeh. Additionally, a built-in lens hood serves to protect the front element as well as prevent stray light from causing flare.

As part of the Art line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve truly notable optical performance and is ideally suited for creative and artistic applications.
Created for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, this wide-angle zoom is designed to deliver excellent image quality while optimizing size and weight. It is also suitable for APS-C models where it provides a 21-36mm equivalent focal length range.
Constant f/2.8 maximum aperture is well-suited for working in available light conditions and provides greater control over depth of field.
Five Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements and one F Low Dispersion (FLD) element markedly reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing throughout the zoom range for improved clarity and color accuracy.
Three aspherical elements, including a large-diameter aspherical lens, control spherical aberrations and distortion for increased sharpness and accurate rendering.
A Super Multi-Layer Coating combined with a Nano Porous Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting to a greater degree than conventional anti-reflective coatings. The combination of these coatings produces contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, and help to make the lens even more effective in backlit conditions.
A stepping AF motor benefits both photographers and videographers with its fast, precise, and near-silent performance. Full-time manual focus control can also be selected.
Built-in Autofocus-Lock (AFL) button can be assigned additional functions widens the range of operations available on the lens.
Rounded eleven-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.
Front lens element has been treated with a water- and oil-repellent coating to benefit working in harsh environmental conditions.
Included rear filter holder is equipped with a fall-prevention lock for attaching and securing gel filters along the lens mount.
Weather-resistant construction with a brass bayonet that affords improved mounting accuracy and rigidity.

Excellent lens. Works perfectly with my Sony a7R IIIA Pretty much ideal for my intended use in real estate photography.

It's becoming cliche but owning this lens is really like having a bag of primes. It might be a bit naive of me but I don't think I'm ever going to have purchase another wide angle because of this lens. It's that good. I use it on an A7rii but from the tests I have seen, it resolves 60mp well. I don't think I'm ever going to need more mp than that. Having to purchase a filter holder makes the cost more difficult to swallow. I went with the Nisi S6 and I went with the entire holder even though I will just use the polarizer. I wanted the option to use a square polarizer, just in case. The filter holder is easier to put on in comparison to a screw on or 100mm system IMO. I went with a 100mm slip on lens cap to cover the back portion of the filter holder while it is in my bag as I intend to keep the polarizer on the holder. I did have to return my first copy because the left side, specifically the top, was clearly decentered throughout the range. The second copy I received is a gem. BH was great about the return. The lens is about the same size as the 24-70 dg dn. I will never use it at 2.8, as I don't do astro, so for me I would have liked it more if it was an f4, smaller, and still an Art lens. All and all I'm super happy with it but there are more convenient lenses (smaller and have filter threads) if you don't need/want top tier image quality. For those that do want top tier image quality in multiple focal lengths and don't want to shell out the money for the Sony 12-24 GM, look no further than the Sigma 14-24mm Art.

This lens will give you an some interesting perspective for your photos. Be careful using this on people though, cause it will distort things heavily.

A terrific lens.

Loving this ultra wide zoom. Colors are warm, contrasts are excellent. It's a perfect size. Very manageable and the balance on my Sony a7R iv is just right.

Does the job it's supposed to do

I like the ND filter slot. It's very wide and does a great job to be wide. Direct to Sony filled the sub-24mm gap of my collection.

Very good value

I have Sony 24-70 g2 and when I compared it is very close. It works fine with Sony a7lv since it crops at 60p and using the 14-24 is it works fine.

Great Quality

The quality of the lens is very good, super sharp and the the auto focus is very subtle but it does a great job accentuating subjects. As well as being able to have a much wider range to create unique landscape and close up shots. Not bad as a portrait lens as well and great for video where space is limited!

Excellent

Very sharp images for landscape and architectural photography. Autofocus works with Sony a7iv but I haven't pushed the eye tracking capabilities to any degree.
