Blending a compact form factor with versatile performance, the Nokton Classic 35mm f/1.4 II SC from Voigtlander is a fast wide-angle prime designed for M-mount rangefinder cameras. This updated, version II of the lens features a symmetrical optical design with one abnormal partial dispersion element, which retains the distinct character and high color accuracy rendering of the original, but also reduces curvature of field and astigmatism for improved focusing accuracy and more even sharpness across the entire image plane. This lens also features a single coating, as opposed to a more common multi-layered coating, which offers a subtler image quality with slightly reduced contrast that is especially well-suited to black and white photography. Its manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 2.3' away and a 10-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality to suit working with shallow depth of field.

Voigtlander Nokton Classic 35mm f/1.4 II SC Reviews
I’m from the Midwest so I claim poetic license for my headline. You’ll either love this lens or hate this lens. If you’re thinking about it I suggest you look at some YouTube videos showing off this single coated lens and its capabilities. They’ll tell you that it’s soft at 1.4 but don’t believe that. If you take your time and lock down a shot, it’s a stunning beautiful sharp image. I don’t see the need to bother with the multicoated version, because that is not why you are buying this lens. I use it on a Fujifilm XT3 with an adapter from Fotodiox. There adapter from Leica to X mount is the smoothest tightest fit adapter I’ve ever owned.
Very good lens with personality but not for pixel peepers
I decided to go with the SC just for a different look as well as I frequently do b+w. There is lens/light flare but to me if shot right, adds to the character of the lens. I really like how the lens renders. Its a soft at 1.4 but thats not unusual as one shots at 1.4 for the softness and bokeh. It sharpens up quickly at 2 and 2.8. I also have the 35 f/2 Ultron and this lens my be on the camera more than the Ultron.
Absolutely gorgeous lens. Very small and compact, perfect for a run and gun kit. The focus ring and tab feel amazing. The small size doesn’t compromise how well built it feels. Great for lower light situations. Great little lens!
