Sony VG-C4EM Reviews

Bolt too long

As mentioned by others, the mounting bolt is too long and the connection to our A1 didn't have a solid feel to it. I made a trip to a tool supply chain store and ought a 3 grinder and took the bolt down by 1/16. The fit is better, but I can still see daylight between the bottom of the A1 and the top of the grip. It's especially noticeable shooting handheld with the Sony 400 prime. Back to the grinder when the opportunity arises.

Solid grip that matches the look & feel of the camera

Yes, this Sony battery grip is expensive. So I checked out many reviews of 3rd-party grips. I saw enough complaints with those to make me pony up for the OEM version. Glad I did. The Sony grip has a solid build and, most importantly, its controls exactly match the feel of the corresponding controls on the body.

It makes the camera!

I purchase this along with the A7R5 and in my opinion the grip makes the camera! I always shoot with a grip and it gives you extra battery juice and a nice vertical grip. Also if you do not stow away the battery door from the camera body into the handle of the grip you have just enough space to hide a Apple AirTag into the space where the camera battery door would go. You have to put the AirTag with the Apple Logo down but it slides right in! Now you can LowJack you camera!

Get a grip!

I'm not sure why Sony doesn't make a flagship camera with a larger body, but this grip seamlessly gives you the functionality and grip surface of a Z9 or R3, and double the battery life! This is the only way I can use heavy telephoto or prime lenses on my Sony. The buttons on this grip feel nicer than the ones on the camera.

Does not fit the A7RV

After considering the third party models, I decided to take advantage of the occasional $50 off sale and purchased this grip for the A7RV. As usual, B&H got it to me in a few days, well packaged and factory fresh. Much to my disappointment, it does not fit well on the A7RV. It seems to line up well, but even after tightening the knob for the 1/4-20 stud, a small gap remains between the camera body and the grip. There is also a small but noticeable wiggle that does nothing to instill confidence. This is disappointing for such an expensive accessory. I may try the Vello version. I could put up with a so-so fit for 25% the cost of the OEM version. I did notice another reviewer above mentioned a similar problem. Maybe Sony needs to take a look at this. Sorry B&H, it's coming back, and thank you for your excellent service and understanding in matters like this.

I'm not a fan of the Sony vertical grips even though all of my camera's have them. Somehow the lock keeps getting bumped to the unlock position leading to wasted shots when slung over the shoulder on a monopod. Also, the screw gets loose at times leading to loss of power for the camera (not good in sports). It really doesn't add anything except a second battery. I think Canon does a better job with these than Sony.

Good but needs update

The grip works great and is built well. I am using this with an a7iv which it states is compatible. The grip is compatible without issue, but the c1 button does not correspond to the button of the same location on the body. The grip is not a seamless fit to the a7iv but it is close enough that I really don't notice it unless I'm looking for it. Overall very happy with it and is great for longer wedding days or days out hiking.

An important Accessory

This is a great battery option if you are looking into a battery grip for you Sony cameras..granted it is a bit higher on price but then again its an OEM accessory..me myself I would pay a little extra to have that instead of a third-party battery grip..I actually applaud Sony for making the battery grip in the sense optional instead of being attached to the body..like some other brands..because what if you feel like you don't need the extra battery on a walk around and the fact that you can attach and detach it at your choice is great..me myself I've always had a battery grip especially since the Sony bodies are on the smaller sizes..the controls work well and again I would recommend this if you want this accessory.. I currently have it on my SonyA7R5 and A74.

Hello I recently made the switch from Nikon to Sony. I bought this battery pack and I've noticed a slight gap between the camera and the battery pack. Is this common for Sony battery grips? The battery grip I had for my Nikon fit flushed to the camera so I'm not sure if the gap is a common thing or I have a faulty battery grip.

A small gap is normal and within spec.
