It supports recording formats MOV and MP4 using ProRes raw for 12-bit recording and H.265 for 10-bit recording (H.264 supports 8-bit recording) when using the latest firmware update that allows the camera to record in both ZRAW and ProRes formats. The HDMI 2.0 port supports 4K60, 10-bit 4:2:0 video output. Audio is recorded in 24-bit 48 kHz using AAC or PCM (PCM for MOV format only) through its 3.5mm stereo jack or via a separately available XLR connector using its 5-pin LEMO port.

The E2-S6 can be controlled via serial ports, a 2.5mm LANC connector, a USB Type-C port, an Ethernet port, or by the Z Camera iOS app to control the camera via Wi-Fi and to view a live image preview and to configure settings. The camera can record time-lapse, slow motion, and can even live stream via its Gigabit Ethernet port. You can also control it locally by the buttons along the side of the camera.

The E2-S6 can be powered by a separately available battery using the built-in L-series battery mount, or you can power the camera using a separately available power adapter using its 2-pin LEMO port. The camera also features a 12 VDC 2-pin LEMO power output to provide power to separately available accessories.

Z CAM E2-S6 Reviews

Fantastic First Cine Camera (if you're ready for Cine)

By Cj

This was my first cinema camera. Image quality is amazing which is to be expected since it shares sensors with the BMPCC 6K. Its a super flexible camera with its formats, recording media, and EF mount (with ND module support). What I didn't expect was for the usability to be this amazing. Connecting to the app and using it to monitor/control the camera made things supers easy on shoot days. And it performed flawlessly for cinema camera things. However I ultimately ended up selling mine because I simply wasn't ready for a cinema camera. Things like photo capabilities, not having to rig up and break down a system every time I wanted to record, and autofocus were things I was missing greatly. This isn't the cameras fault, as it does exactly what it is advertised to do. If, and only if, you're prepared to jump into the cinema camera should you be looking into these, but this is definitely an EXCELLENT choice if you are. In case you're wondering, I now shoot on the Sony a7IV and I sold all my Canon gear and EF lenses. I do miss walking onto sets with that ZCam rig and looking like a true pro though.

The Z Cam E2-S6 is a fabulous value for the money. Shoots in 6K with a beautiful color balance. It feels sturdy. Can't beat the codec options and quality for the price point.

I don't think you can get a better camera for the price

I bought this camera a year ago. And I have used it mainly for commercials and corporate work. In terms of image quality, bang for buck, flexibility, and features I don't think you can find a better option. BlackMagic might be similar in many ways, but the boxy form factor of the Zcam and lens mount interchangeable options make this system unique. If anything, the few quirks come down to the actual physical buttons: no way to see them in the dark when shooting in low-light situations and no tactile difference between them and maybe the Zraw codec, which is not very easy to work with. The audio preamps are pretty decent by the way, and if you just get the XLR- to mini XLR cable the sound is really good and you can use phantom-powered mics. If you can't afford a higher-priced camera like a C300 M3 and you don't care much about autofocus, there's no way to beat this mini beast of a cinema camera.

Cinema Camera of the Future, today!

There is just something about the image out of a dedicated Cine camera that just has a rich, warm feel that I never got from my GH5! Pair it with some vintage lenses and you have something that looks fantastic - and small, so it runs on my gimbal no problem - and the price??? Couldn't be happier

Beautiful image with some comprimises

I've been using this camera for a little over a year, working on documentaries and sports. Here's a pros and cons list: Pros: - Image, it looks amazing - Form factor, I love it, but also hate it because it needs to be rigged out for handheld, which adds more points of failure. - Interchangeable lens mount, I use sony E, but that is a con - Numerous record formats, 4k up to 75 and 4k 241 up to 100, pretty good, all ProRes 422 or 422 HQ - External SSD recording, not the most reliable, but cheap - 2 pin lemo power output - Amazing mobile app - Durable, this is why I got it over the BMPCC6K, it's all metal and I have no worries about rain or sand Cons: - 5 pin lemo xlr, it's a horrible connector, expensive, and not many options. Pretty sure new Red v-raptor has it as well, so maybe more options will come out - Internal preamps, they aren't the best - CFAST 2.0, it's really expensive, but reliable - Sony E mount, it's made by viltrox, double the cost of the native zcam mounts, and isn't reliable and doesn't securely hold the lens - Post workflow, I use resolve with the ZLOG plugin, which looks amazing, but a little annoying I can't use the native resolve colour tools for the same result. would love to see BRAW. ZRAW is even worse, have to convert in their own software. - External ssd recording, it isn't the most reliable, even with both connections locked down - No a big name brand. It normally doesn't matter, but sometimes clients want to hear Canon or Sony.

I bought it about 3 months ago and it hasnt let me down once. the menu system take a bit to understand but its fairly intuitive. I havent used it with CFast but recording to my Samsung T5 is amazing. ZLog is also amazing. I also love the versatility of the camera because its so small it fits into anything.

Fantastic Cinema Camera

I have shot everything from feature length narrative to live, 3 camera switched shoots and this little beast delivers every single time with no glitches, color or white/black balance issues, frame drops, bad pixels, or any of the other issues I've experienced with other cameras. It's light, flexible, and works seamlessly with the rest of my rig (Sound devices MixPre-6, Atomos Ninja V+, Hollyland wireless video). I also love the fact that I can switch out the lens mount. I mostly have EF mount lenses, but I also use MFT mount anamorphic lenses and PL mount Sony Cinema Primes and I get outstanding images with all options. I do wish the menus were a little more intuitive, but that is a minor gripe considering the rest of the camera is so good.

Is there any way to get SDI Out without using A Decimator MD-HX Converter from HDMI Out?
Asked by: Gill
OK, to get 4k would require a Decimator 12G-Cross 4K HDMI/SDI Cross Converter. Got it. The Question was SDI not 12G SDI. The Point - The only way to get SDI out of this Camera is through a converter from HDMI Out. There's is no native add-on module. A Camera of this type should have SDI Out.
