Venus Optics LAOWA 17mm f/4 ZERO-D Reviews

Everything I could ask for

At the end of the day, I'd have been happy with a junk feel if it produced good images. This does that, but feels good to use as well. Good feel for the aperture ring, the focusing is nice and smooth, the DOF scale printed on the lens barrel is really nice. The metal construction feels really good in my hands, actually a nice change from Fuji's plastic lenses. Even though it adds a bunch of weight it still doesn't feel unwieldy. Close focus and infinity focus both looked great.

Excellent Optic, However...

The lens is very sharp and, as a landscape photographer, I love the long focus throw and very detailed distance scale. Optically, it's a winner. The reason it doesn't get five stars is because it's disconcerting that the f-stop is not communicated to the camera, hence no f-stop info in the metadata. I would easily pay more for that feature because it's really inconvenient without it.

Manual focus but easy to use. Worked well for me in Yosemite after the recent storm

Excellent - does things no other lens can do on the GFX

Great lens - great build quality and fantastic performance. Astonishing field of view and can get incredibly close to subjects; much more so than the official spec would suggest! My new favourite for creative medium-format work.

Exactly at advertised, well made and good images, sharp in the middle, okay in the edges, fun to use, easy to focus, controls are set up with the right pressure for aperture and focus.

Solid lens at a good price!

This is a solid, well built lens (it's a little heavy) that produces sharp images. It does lack autofocus and weather-proofing however, it is significantly less expensive than comparable lenses that do offer those features. As I enjoy landscape photography from a tripod with wide angle views and huge depth of field, the fact that it is manual focus is not a problem. So, if that is your type of photography, get this lens, you will not regret it.

Suggest you look at Laowa’s 12mm lens in Sony E mount (I'm assuming the Sony you have is an E lens mount Laowa has stated their 17mm lens for the GFX is basically the same lens as their 12mm for 35mm cameras. The GFX version has some additional glass and a different mount in the back to make it work on the GFX. Essentially for the GFX it's their 12mm lens plus their Magic Mount Converter all in one lens. You can find the 12mm on the B

All the other answers have got it wrong referring to Pentax K glass, because none of that can be mounted on a Pentax 645!!! Totally different camera. And sadly Venus Optics has never made anything for the Pentax 645 series of cameras. (otherwise I'd get it!)

You need to set the camera to shoot without a lens. In this link it shows where in the menu to set that. http://fujifilm-dsc.com/en/manual/gfx50s/menu_setup/button-dial_setting/index.html#shoot_without_lens
