Tilta PowerGrip Handle with Trigger Overview

The F970 battery-powered Tiltaing Side Focus Handle Type I from Tilta adds a variety of functions to your half or full Tiltaing camera cage. Pair it with a Nucleus Nano motor for fingertip focus control and a Nucleus Nano R/S cable for a record start/stop button with compatible cameras. This Tilta gray handle features an integrated holder for a Samsung T5 SSD.

This cage component also features a knurled focus wheel, an 8V micro-USB output, a 12V output, and a rubberized surface for a secure grip. For run/stop control for the BMPCC 4K/6K, use the Tilta Advanced Focus Handle Type VI.

Note:
A camera power cable is not included.

This is a great idea for a side focus handle but sadly this isn't one that was fully thought out. The ergonomics are great and it feels good to hold but it makes no sense when you go to pull focus, the throw is super short that its hard to nail focus, especially on a cine lens that has a long rotation. The main problem is when you adjust the dial a hair it advances the focus 4x what you wanted. If this is a very run and gun set up I would spring for the extra money and get the more expensive tilta handles.

Nice grip, good ergonomics, focus ring travel is just the right amount. Putting on the rosette mount is a bit of a pain and requires the included angled Allan key, so don't loose that one.

The best way to pull focus as a solo operator. Period.

After trying the side handle by portkeys I've ended my journey with the advanced side handle with RS. Portkeys had a great handle I almost kept but there were a few reasons I decided to return that for this. First being it was very confusing system. It worked well with pocket 6k because of the Bluetooth. But the fact I couldn't pair with my pocket 6k and have my portkeys LH5P monitor made me have to pick between the monitor and the handle. I kept the monitor and went with this Tilta. And I'm really glad I did. The focus motor is designed for focusing. The wheel is dampened and it feels solid. And this system is much more versatile as I can use this on pretty much any small to medium sized cine lens. The RS button works exactly as it should. You do need the optional cable which i can't understand why is $30. But all in all Tilta is the best rig accessories "company" while I believe small rig is the best at making cages and rig parts. If your Legos kinda guy then go smallrig. But Tilta makes products you need. Like this one.

ok. on paper, this piece of kit is the bomb. big battery, adjustable angle, strap, big grip...I'm in, Let's go! IRL...not so much. Whoever designed this has never used this in the field on a rig. first of all, the calibrate button is exactly where your thumb goes when you are holding your rig, so in the middle of a shot, your lens will undergo a full stop to stop calibration. To say that will ruin a shot in a live situation is an understatement. the angle adjustment button is almost exactly where your index finger goes when you wrap your hand around the grip. so, for me to make this work - I have to tighten up the strap as far as it will go, shove my hand in as far as possible, curl my thumb over the strap/top of the grip (avoiding the power button) as not to trip the calibrate button then either stick my index finger out to avoid the angle adjustment and try to adjust focus on the very short throw wheel or try to wedge my hand below the angle adjustment button. this works...barely until my hand starts to cramp and the shot is ruined again. I have all three of the Nucleus N controllers/grips and to be fair, all of them are not good. the wheel one uses weird/hard to find batteries that don't hold a charge and don't get me started on the Bluetooth connection!, the basic one is held on with 2 Phillips screws that you can only tighten thru 2 tiny holes in the side of the grip and can't crank down enough to keep it from wiggling and this one with the shortcomings listed above. I swear this could be SOOOOO good...and it's not. Try it regardless as long as there's a good return policy. I shoot live event video for a living and these are not mission critical.

cant actually calibrate or control the nucleus nano. powers it fine, but i now have no way to control it and that was the point of purchasing it. i have been happy with all the hardware i have gotten from tilta so far, but this is not good. sending it back if i cant get it to work, and so far i can't find any useful information on getting this to work.

Have a cine cam bought two because you can have a control grip for each arm one for focus other iso.

Although I haven't used it for long, I absolutely love this handle. The possibility of having the focus on the tip of your finger while holding the camera is incredible, and a game changer for handheld camera. Im pairing with the nano motor and so far it works good. I wish there was a way to revert the direction of the focus knob, in case I need to rig the motor on the right side of the camera.
