The main compartment is 18.1 x 6.3 x 4.7". I want to be able to carry my Sony 400 2.8 GM which is 6.2 x 14" without lens hood. Is the 4.7" dimension of the bag's main compartment flexible enough to hold this lens while hiking without the lens on the camera?

I found that the Pland-B Hard-Evac hard shell sling bag by Hazard is the only solution that allows the camera to be attached and to change lenses without danger by swinging the sling bag around to the front. The hard shell is also great for such an expensive lens. There is a picture of the lens and camera in the bag [without padding placed yet] on your site. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1498603-REG/hazard_4_evc_pbh_blk_plan_b_hard_shell_photo.html?sts=pi
