f-stop Slope ICU Reviews

The slope is handy given the right lenses

I have a shallow medium ICU that fits very well in some of my backpacks (the depth is a perfect fit). However, all of my lenses need to lay down in the shallow, which means fewer fit in the ICU. That's usually not a problem as I'm not carrying a lot of gear with those backpacks. I got the slope medium ICU to put into my Tilopa pack. The deep end is the perfect height for standing a 14-70 f2.8 lens upright, saving a lot of space for other optics/gear. The narrower end provides more space in the pack outside of the ICU, perfect for stashing clothing layers, etc. I'm very happy with the size.

This review is for the medium slope ICU only. I have the Lotus and don’t care for it either. ICU top lid is non padded, non protective, and flimsy, zipper is difficult to work it, dividers are thin, hard, and cheap feeling... after one month of almost no use they are getting fuzzy. You are totally paying too much money because it says FStop on it.

Not ideal for my use case

I got this ICU with the idea of fitting a Fujifilm X body with a grip and the 100-400mm attached. I didn't really think that through. That configuration fits in this ICU, just barely. The problem is that this only works as intended if the camera is at the bottom and the lens points up. In my opinion that puts too stress on the mount with that heavy lens attached, and in practice it kept ripping the eyecup off the camera as I biked around with it. So I ended up flipping the whole thing over (just barely still fits with the grip on the shallow top end), but the dividers at the top end don't have the same adjustability as they do at the bottom end, and because the ICU is deeper at the bottom I couldn't just flip the dividers around along with the camera. I got it to work by slanting the dividers but now everything is a little crooked and non-ideal. Long story short, unless you have large DLSR bodies you may be better off with the medium shallow model instead of the slope. Great build quality though!

Love the options

This system is great in the way that you can mix or match pieces as you need them, for each event/outing.

a lot of room !!

Great Product. I put into an F-Stop Bag. Without other stuff in the bag it makes it difficult to zip and unzip. I wish the backpacks came with built in compartments with dividers rather than having to use inserts. I know that my old camera backpack did and I loved it. Much easier to work with not having to use two zippers just to get to my equipment, and having one tucked under the edges of the other. Otherwise great insert for my gear.

Fits ICU

Works well for a camera body (Nikon D850) with battery grip, and a small selection of lenses and accessories (flash, filters, etc.). The dividers work as expected and the padding in the panel provides a nice added bit of padding between you and your gear. I primarily use it in my F-Stop Kashmir and it leaves plenty of room above in the bag (above the ICU) for lunch, jacket, etc. I like this combination as a way to keep my load to a reasonable weight.

Has anyone went from the medium slope to large ...

Has anyone went from the medium slope to large pro? It doesn't seem like there's that much more room in the large? I have a Nikon Z6ii, 14-30, 24-70, 28mm and sometimes carry my Sigma Sports 70-200 and the medium is a little tight. Is it worth the upgrade from medium slope to large pro?

The internal dimensions of the f--stop Slope ICU (Black, Medium) is 4.5-6.5 x 10 x10.5". The f-stop PRO ICU (Black, Large) internal dimensions are 6.5 x 10.5 x 14". If the medium is a little tight the extra 4" in height should make a difference.

Is there a medium insert that is just deep ...

Is there a medium insert that is just deep without the slope? the size of the bag is perfect for my smaller kit but the slope doesn't work for me. I have the Large and X-Large ones as well but they are to big for my smaller trips I'm planning, I have gear that is higher than 4.5" inches in height.

You may want to consider the Pacsafe Camsafe PCI-M Protective Camera Insert (Black), BH # PAPCIMBLK which lacks a slope.
