LG 27MD5KL Reviews
It's only been three weeks
The default resolution suggested by LG is pretty low. I can't find more information online from LG about correctly using the 5K resolution. I have the owner's manual, which states to consult the user's manual which I cannot find anywhere. This monitor is connected to a 2023 Mac Studio that should support 5K. I did not receive this product free or at a discount in exchange for my opinion. But you are welcome to reimburse me for the purchase price.
Recalibrate on EVERY WAKE UP
Want to recalibrate EVERY WAKE UP? Buy this one. On Mac Studio M1, this loses its brightness settings every time it wakes up from sleep. Yep. Brightness goes totally wacky every time. Sure, you can write custom software to bump your brightness up, then down every time and then it snaps back to profile correctly. Or do it manually and it'll reset to *close* to correct settings -- if you didn't jog it too far up or down when you let go the slider. I've subbed in a Samsung, a Dell, and a less expensive 4k LG and they all hold their brightness setting. Not this Ultrafine. Brightness is wacky every time it wakes up. Just spent 2 hours with LG. They blame (you guessed it) Apple. Apple blames (you guessed it) LG. Datacolor at least has tried to help me solve it, but it's not a Datacolor problem (I use Datacolor calibration solution which I like). Issue is specific to this monitor. Google lg ultrafine brightness resets randomly and you'll see this is an ongoing issue. So, on a Windows? Maybe. On a Mac? If accurate brightness is no problem for you, then go for it. It's a sharp and colorful monitor with great dynamic range. But for brightness accuracy? Zero.
