Panasonic Lumix S PRO 24-70mm f/2.8 Overview

A contemporary take on the classic fast standard zoom, the Panasonic Lumix S PRO 24-70mm f/2.8 is an L-mount wide-angle to short-telephoto lens characterized by its constant f/2.8 maximum aperture and sophisticated optical design. Aspherical, UHR, and ED elements are used to produce well-corrected imagery with high sharpness, accurate color rendering, and notable clarity throughout the zoom and focus ranges. Complementing the optics is a double focus system, which utilizes both a linear motor and a stepping motor, to provide especially fast and precise focusing performance. Additionally, the lens sports a weather-sealed design for use in harsh conditions and a rounded 11-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality with smooth transitions between the in-focus and out-of-focus regions of the image.

Standard zoom is designed for full-frame L-mount mirrorless cameras, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 36-105mm equivalent focal length range.
Bright constant f/2.8 maximum aperture maintains consistent illumination throughout the zoom range and affords greater control over depth of field.
Three aspherical elements and one ultra-high refractive index element help to minimize distortions and spherical aberrations throughout the zoom range in order to maintain edge-to-edge sharpness and illumination.
Four extra-low dispersion elements greatly reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing in order to produce a high degree of clarity and color accuracy.
A double focus system employs both a linear motor and a stepping motor to deliver impressively fast, precise, and quiet autofocus performance.
Manual focus clutch allows you to simply push or pull the focusing range to quickly switch between AF and MF focusing modes.
Splash, dust, and freezeproof design benefits working in inclement weather conditions down to -14°F.
Rounded 11-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

I found this lens to be quite sharp in the center and sides. The color rendition is quite good. In general, I was quite pleased with purchase.

Used on a Panasonic S1h. With the exception of not having any image stabilization built-in, it's everything I could've wanted. Sharp, bright, fast, and with none of the chromatic aberration of the Canon lens I was using before. A bit pricey, but good glass usually is. Pretty happy with my purchase.

Best Zoom Lens Ever!!

I am familiar with using 24-70mm f2.8 zooms which I've used on my EOS R... Yet I typically prefer primes. However, the LUMIX S PRO 24-70mm f2.8 on my LUMIX DC-S1 has changed my mind about about zoom lenses. This lens is the perfect zoom lens. Beautiful image quality, sharpness, chromatic aberrations, distortion, build quality, rendering, bokeh, it's truly an amazing top of it's class 24-70 f2.8 zoom lens. I have no complaints. This lens is worth the price. Buy it and be done with it. This is the 1 lens that will be glued on my camera for 99% of the time. P.S. I also like how the lens doesn't extend outward until around 30mm and even at 70mm it doesn't stick out too far. Great design.

Coming from a 5d mark iii with L glass, this lens on my S1 is a noticeable step up. Particularly when making larger prints — huge difference there. It’s expensive but, in my case, worth it.

This lens is first class! I love the way manual focusing can be engaged so easily while framing the shot. I just got a Lumix S5 and this lens works so well with the camera. When engaging manual focus, the viewfinder enlarges the focus area beautifully to ensure perfect manual focus.

For video use, Is this a parfocal design, and does the image breathe when changing the focus?
Asked by: Steve K
From our tests, while not truly parfocal, the Lumix S PRO 24-70 f/2.8 performs very, very well when zooming from its wide to telephoto end and back. As far as focus breathing is concerned, we tested with subjects moving toward us and away from us and noticed a non-negligible amount. However, in our opinion, the severity and obviousness of it will really depend on your composition, subject matter, how the scene is set up, etc.
