There is very little difference between the two drives performance wise, they are both 5400 RPM HDDs.

What's the difference between this HHD and a normal WD HHD, besides the write/read speed?

There really is not a big difference outside of the marketing and the case design which is a but more robust than other portable WD drives. Comparing it to a WD My passport this drive for example does not come with any software from WD.
