32.5MP APS-C CMOS Sensor
Featuring an impressively high-resolution 32.5MP APS-C CMOS sensor, the 90D is capable of producing imagery with notable clarity and dynamic range, as well as a broad sensitivity range of ISO 100-25600 and low noise to support working in difficult lighting situations. The sensor and image processor also realize fast performance throughout the camera system, including the ability to shoot continuously at up to 10 fps, record UHD 4K30p video, or record high-speed Full HD 1080p video at 120 fps.
45-Point All Cross-Type AF and Dual Pixel CMOS AF Systems
Benefitting stills shooting with the optical viewfinder, a wide-area 45-point all cross-type phase-detection autofocus system provides quick and precise focusing in difficult lighting conditions down to -3 EV. For working with telephoto lenses fitted with extenders, 27 of the points are capable of focusing down to f/8 and the center dual cross-type offers increased precision at brighter aperture values. The cross-type design of the sensors affords greater accuracy in low-contrast and mixed lighting conditions, and the broad coverage of the 45 sensors is ideal for tracking and maintaining focus on moving subjects. Making use of the 45-points is a series of four AF area selection modes, including single-point AF; Zone AF, where you can select from one of nine AF zones; Large Zone AF, which offers a choice of three selectable zones; and 45-point AF auto selection, which allows the camera to select a single point automatically.

When recording video or shooting in live view, a Dual Pixel CMOS AF system is employed that features 5481 selectable autofocus points. This focusing system offers smooth and fast focusing performance in a similar manner to how a camcorder acquires focus. Dual Pixel CMOS AF integrates two separate photodiodes within each pixel to provide a broad and dense network of phase-detection gathering elements across a majority of the image sensor to reduce focus hunting for faster, more direct control of focus placement. When working with still imagery, this focusing system works to acquire focus quickly and accurately, making it ideally suited to shooting and tracking moving subjects so that critical focus is attained with each shot. When shooting video, a Movie Servo AF mode offers smooth and natural focusing when changing from different subjects or different distances within the scene, as well as the ability to specify tracking sensitivity, AF speed, and Face Tracking priority. Benefited by the Touch AF system, rack focus is possible simply by touching elements within the scene on the touchscreen in order to change focus in an intuitive manner. Subject tracking in movies is also heightened due to the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system's ability to recognize subjects and maintain focus when working within changing or cluttered scenery.

Canon 90D Reviews

Words don't do it justice

I simply can't say enough about the 90D. I use it for video, as a B cam to my A cam (R6). I absolutely love the APS-C sensor on the 90D as it allows me to turn every lens into a 1.6x further reach. I love that I can use the same batteries that I use for my R6 for this camera. I also love the quality that this provides given the price point. Some days I wish it had 4K60 instead of only 4K30, but in those times I just shoot in 1080p60. Biggest gripe is there is no C-Log in it, which forces me to shoot in standard profiles on both my R6 and this so as to make color-correcting easier. There was a time when my R6's LCD screen got broken and I had to send it back to Canon to get repaired. During that time I used the 90D as my A cam and it did NOT disappoint. I am very pleasantly surprised with this DSLR. I would compare the quality of it to the new and upcoming mirrorless cameras from Canon. I'm considering upgrading from the 90D to the R7 for a few reasons... - 4K60 - still is a crop sensor so it still has the extra reach on lenses - still the same batteries as R6 - C-Log - to have a camera that doesn't overheat (on my R6 I can't shoot in 4K for very long) But I'm having a hard time wanting to buy another camera when this one has seriously exceeded my expectations. Great job Canon!

The jury is still out.

At my age, I don't see going mirrorless.. I have a 5D Mark IV which I love and I have L lenses. I like to have a crop frame camera as a backup and the 90D has as many megapixils as the Mark IV. I upgraded from a 7D mark II because the 90D is suppose to handle noise better. Well, it does handle noise better and the files are nice and large for cropping. The thing I noticed is that the AF does seem to hunt and shift more than my other Canon cameras. I used it with a 70-200 2.8 L IS III lense so it was not the lens. I would have liked the 7D mark II to become a 7D Mark III! It is what it is. When the focus locks in, the photos have a lot of resolution. I will update this after I have used it more.

I have the Canon 70D and was past ready for an upgrade, I researched and read reviews and decided on the 90D. The camera so far has been great, once I had it setup to my settings and some practice in the backyard , I am loving this camera and even more excited for our annual birdwatching trip to Texas next month. The service was great and I received the camera so quickly from the order date, being informed the entire time. Thank you for your excellent customer service!

Canon, "don't" stop making DSLRs!

I reentered the digital camera world 18 months ago with a Rebel TR7 "kiddie camera" and when I learned the merits of going from point and shoot to dslr decided to up my game. After looking at Nikon D780 and Canon's 90D I decided on the 90D. Not at all sorry for doing so. This camera is fantastic (after you learn it's details) and the results keep getting better. A good bird in flight photo is easy enough, but a fantastic bird in flight photo is a challenge yet, readily accomplished with the 90D. Only request I have is that Canon explain better in the owner's manual the effects of different lens classifications when using the OVF or LCD screen. Each has its own merits and outcomes.

Nice Upgrade from a 60D

Upgraded from a 60D to the 90D after doing lots of research. It works nicely with my EFS 15-85 3.5 lens. The menu layouts are a bit different but are easy to navigate through and setting up bluetooth and wireless worked out fine pairing with an iPhone. My 580EX II flash operate the same as on the 60D but at some point I will upgrade to a wireless R flash rather than dealing with the line of sight controlled by the on camera flash. When navigating through the settings a popup screen appears providing an explanation of the setting, which is a nice touch for beginners trying to figure it out. The full user manual was downloaded from the Canon website and has a lot of information to digest. My only dislike is the Canon app... useless to register the camera and took several attempts to set up wireless. Going directlly to the website to register the camera is the best way to go for setting up an account . I look forward to learning more about the capabilities of the 90D and putting it too use.

Awesome camera with 32 megapixels. A joyful 656 page manual. There is much to learn with camera as there is with any other professional camera. I am very happy with this camera. For the money, this is excellent. Now I want 50 megapixel camera.

Canon 90D Exceeds Expectations

I was so excited to get this new camera and it did not disappoint. After 10 years with my 7D it was time to upgrade and I was pleasantly surprised with all of the upgrades. 32 mp resolution; wifi connectivity; smartphone connectivity; 25,000+ ISO; -5 to +5 exposure compensation and so much more. The ergonomics of the body is perfect and, of course all of my lenses fit. I don't generally use it for video, but the capabilities of 90D for video sound amazing. I did test it for screen capture from video and was impressed with the results. If you don't want to spend the big bucks on the top of the line equipment, consider the Canon 90D. And definitely get it from B&H. I almost bought one from Amazon that included a ton of accessories for the same price. Turns out the camera was gray market. Stick with industry professionals.

We do not have shutter counts for new cameras. But they should be very low. Only what is needed to test the camera in the factory. We only can give shutter counts for used models. We can't open boxes of new cameras to check.

What means exactly "digital image stabilization"? Does it really stabilize like Sony models do?
Asked by: Marcelo
Sony stabilizes the image by physically moving the image sensor to counteract your own movements, your shaking hands. Digital stabilization is completely different. The camera compares consecutive video images and overlays the images on top of each other so that the objects in the images are properly aligned. Therefore you get the illusion that the video is steady. The downside is that the finished video ends up being cropped.

You can use EF lenses with your Canon 90D. Keep in mind that there is a 1.6x crop factor. For example, a 50mm EF lens on an APS-C camera like the 90D, will be cropped to 80mm.
